The Stafford Motor Speedway will celebrate some thing new on the schedule Friday night and the Waterford Speebdowl will celebrate old times a night later.
After getting rained out on July 4, Stafford Motor Speedway officials will once again attempt to run the inaugural SK 5K on Friday.
Saturday at the Waterford Speedbowl the track hosts its annual Nostalgia Night, highlighted by the first Charlie Mitchell Memorial SK Modified event.

What: Whelen All-American Series event
Where: Stafford Motor Speedway
When: Friday
Schedule: NAPA Auto Parts SK 5K (length to be determined by fan vote and announced Friday), 30-lap Late Model, 20-lap SK Light Modified, 20-lap Limited Late Model, 15-lap DARE Stock and 20-lap Legends. Grandstands open: 5:15 p.m.; Qualifying: 6:15 p.m. Features: Immediately following qualifying.
More: The ninth event of the season at Stafford Motor Speedway. … The track’s inaugural running of the SK 5K. The event was originally scheduled for July 4 but was rained out. … The distance of the event will be determined by fan voting online and announced minutes before the start of the event. Distance possibilities include 40 laps, 50 laps, 60 laps, 76 laps, 80 laps or 100 laps. … The event will pay more than a $27,000 purse, with $5,000 being paid to the winner. … Online fan voting will also determine the qualifying procedure, tire allotments and how the starting field will be set. … Last week in the SK Modified division, 17-year old rookie Ronnie Williams scored his first career victory. … Ryan Preece has won four of the seven SK Modified events run this year at Stafford. Ted Christopher and rookie Chase Dowling are the only other winners this year. … … Preece holds a six-point lead over second place Christopher in the division’s standings. Woody Pitkat is third in the standings, 48 points behind. … Division points leader Jay Stuart won last week’s Late Model feature, his second win of the year. Stuart had finished in the top-four in all seven Late Model events this year. … Other winners in the division this year include Adam Gray (twice), JJ Hill, Jim Peterson and Tom Fearn. … Stuart has a 30-point lead over second place Gray in the standings. Schedule: 35-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series SK Modified, 30-lap Late Model, 25-lap Street Stock, 25-lap Mini Stock, 27-lap NEMA and 27-lap NEMA Lites. Grandstands open: 3 p.m.; Qualifying: 5:15 p.m.; Features: Approximately 7 p.m.
More: The 15th event of the season at the shoreline oval. … Waterford celebrates its annual Nostalgia Night at the track with special display cars and exhibition events for nostalgia divisions. The track will also host the first Charlie Mitchell Memorial SK Modified race, in honor of the Norwalk Hour racing reporter. … In the last event at the track, Kyle James easily drove away with his second victory of the season in the SK Modified division feature. … Keith Rocco has seven SK Modified division victories in 14 events this year at Waterford. … Other winners include Ed Puleo (twice), Tyler Chadwick, Joey Gada and Craig Lutz. … Rocco has built a massive lead over the field in the standings, holding a 162-point advantage over second place Lutz in the SK Modified division standings. Ed Puleo is third in the standings, 183 points off the lead. … Rocco got his seventh victory of the season in the track’s Late Model division last week. Bruce Thomas Jr. (three wins), Vin Esposito (two wins) and Jason Palmer (two wins) are the division’s other winners this year. … Rocco leads Thomas by 24 points in the standings.
