THOMPSON – Getting through choppy waters early led to smooth sailing late for Kerry Malone Thursday at Thompson Speedway.

Malone came out on top of an early race battle for the lead and then put it on cruise control out front on the way to victory in the 30-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series SK Modified feature Thursday at Thompson.

It was the first victory of the season for the Needham, Mass. driver.

Todd Ceravolo of Gales Ferry was second and Keith Rocco of Wallingford third.

Malone came out on top of a lap four battle for the lead between himself, Rocco and Troy Talman.

“It was either make it or don’t,” Malone said of the move for the lead. “I knew I had to go for it. I knew whoever got in front first would probably have a good shot at winning this thing the way they were stacked up. [Talman] slid up a little bit, the hole was there and I said ‘Well, I gotta go’ and I went and made it work.”

Malone held the top spot for the rest of way, easily keeping Ceravalo behind him over the closing laps.

“I just kept trying to a little bit slower and a little bit slower and just try to save the tires because I figured for sure a caution would come out,” Malone said. “Usually when I win these things it’s with 25 or 30 cautions. I was trying to save as much of the car just in case, just trying to roll in easy and roll out easy.”

Wow…15 whole cars in the premier class……..Pretty soon management should be eliminating the SK division at Thompson like the Lights….

  2. ..and here i was praising and complimenting Keith Rocco on here just a couple weeks ago, then last night he stuffs our driver into the turn 2 wall at Thompson on lap 3 of the feature……LAP 3!!! Tire slapped him……drove him all the way up to the marbles and then gave him one last parting shot with his RR to assure there was no saving it. Thank you Mr. Rocco. Congrats to Kerry Malone, he was FAST last night!

  3. Malone’s a Legend at Thompson! Hell of a driver and hell of a good guy!

It is really pretty simple, if you don’t approve of everything that happens at Thompson, don’t go there! I doubt Russ, Josh, Scott or any of the Hoenig’s have lost a minutes sleep to your negative comments.
