If it’s Touring Modifieds in action that you’re looking for then there’s no better place to be than the state of Connecticut this weekend.

Friday and Saturday will see back-to-back Touring Modified events in state.

Friday it’s the Whelen Modified Tour returning to Stafford Motor Speedway for the third time this year for the running of the Call Before You Dig 811 150.

Saturday the Valenti Modified Racing Series heads back to the Waterford Speedbowl for the track’s running of their annual Wings and Wheel’s Show, which also sees the Northeastern Midget Association and International Super Modified Association on the card.

What: NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour and NASCAR Whelen All-American Series event

Schedule: NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Call Before You Dig 811 150, 40-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series SK Modified, 30-lap Late Model, 20-lap SK Light Modified, 20-lap Limited Late Model and 15-lap DARE Stock. Grandstands open: 4:15 p.m.; Qualifying: 6 p.m.; Features: Immediately following qualifying.

More: The 11th event of the season at Stafford Motor Speedway. … Stafford hosts the Whelen Modified Tour for the third of four times this season. Bobby Santos III won the NAP Auto Parts Spring Sizzler 200 on April 27 and Doug Coby won the TSI Harley-Davidson 125 on June 6. … The fifth of eight visits to a state short track this year for the division. The Whelen Modified Tour ran at the Waterford Speedbowl on June 21. The division will run their second of three events at Thompson Speedway on Aug. 13. … With top-10 finishes in all seven series starts this year, Coby leads the Whelen Modified Tour standings by four points over Justin Bonsignore. Santos is third, eight points behind Coby. Ted Christopher is fourth in the standings, 13 points off the lead. … Santos is a three-time winner this season and Bonsignore has two series wins in 2014. Coby and Eric Goodale each have one victory. … Last week at Stafford Rowan Pennink was victorious in the SK Modified division for the second consecutive week. Pennink had finished outside the top-10 in the first five events he ran in 2014 before getting his first victory of the season in the inaugural NAPA Auto Parts SK 5K at Stafford on July 25. … Ryan Preece has won four of the nine SK Modified events run this season at Stafford. Other winners include Ted Christopher and rookies Chase Dowling and Ronnie Williams. … Christopher leads the SK Modified division standings by 16 points over Preece. Woody Pitkat is third, 48 points off the lead. … Jim Peterson won for the second time last week in the Late Model feature. Other winnners this year include Jay Stuart (three), Adam Gray (twice), JJ Hill and Tom Fearn. … Stuart holds a 38-point lead over second place Gray at the top of Late Model division standings. Bruce Thomas Jr. (three wins), Vin Esposito (two wins) and Jason Palmer (two wins) are the division’s other winners this year. … Rocco leads Thomas by 64 points in the standings.
