STAFFORD – The custom helmet painting company Shell Shock Designs is one of the supporters of Joey Ferrigno’s SK Light Modified at Stafford Motor Speedway.

Fittingly so, shell shocked was a good way to describe Ferrigno’s surprise when the SK Light Modified feature at Stafford concluded with him standing in victory lane.

Seconds after the initial green flag flew for the SK Light Modified feature at Stafford Motor Speedway, Ferrigno figured his night was over. Little did he know it was just the drama setup for a rally to a win.

Ferrigno came back from the first lap wreck to win the 20-lap SK Light Modified feature Friday at Stafford Speedway.

It was the third victory of the season for Ferrigno, of East Hartford.

Branden Dion of Taunton, Mass. was second and Jeremy Sorel of Westfield, Mass. third.

Just after the start of the race, Ferrigno’s car got hit and turned in the pack and then slammed into, sending him to the infield.

“I felt it get hit in the left rear wheel,” Ferrigno said. “Warming it up, giving it a shakedown [under caution], it felt [bad]. The car was definitely a lot looser than it was in the heat race. I saw visible the [suspension wasn’t straight] and something was knocked out in the rear end. But I guess they offset each other and it was enough to get it done.”

Ferrigno worked his way back up and moved in on Dion at the front in the closing laps. Ferrigno got under Dion out of turn four on lap 19 and led by inches at the white flag and then held off Dion’s charges over the closing laps.

“I just followed him for two laps and watched where he was weak. Fortunately for me where he was weak is where I was strong,” Ferrigno said. “I got under him and got the better line. … Three wins in a season. I can’t remember the last time I did that.”

Spin and win! I’m impressed! Now if only ‘ol “2 seat” could get his act together, I’d have two of my homeboys I could be proud of!
