Stafford Notes: Stephen Kopcik Gets First SK Light Mod Victory; Andrew Hayes, David Comeau Grab Wins

SMS-LOGO-HOME-PAGE-2012STAFFORD – Stephen Kopcik made victory No. 1 a dramatic one Friday at Stafford Motor Speedway.

Kopcik held off a charging Joey Ferrigno to win the 20-lap SK Light Modified feature Friday at Stafford.

Kopcik, of Newtown, was making his 11th start in the divison.

“It’s amazing to be standing here,” Kopcik said in victory lane. “It’s just crazy. I didn’t think we’d be here tonight. We weren’t the best in practice. I just can’t thank everyone enough.”

Ferrigno, of East Hartford – a winner two of the last three weeks at Stafford in SK Light Modified features – was second and Jeremy Sorel of Westfield, Mass. third.

Kopcik got by D.J. Burnham to take the lead out of turn two on the final lap, but Ferrigno got a run on Kopcik down the backstretch and got under him through the final corners, but couldn’t get by him coming to the checkered flag.

“I’ve got to congratulate the kid, Stephen is a good guy,” Ferrigno said. “He ran me pretty dirty the last couple weeks. I ran him clean tonight and he came down on me out of [turn] four. I would have liked to have had a nice run on him for the win, but it is what it is.”

Andrew Hayes of Charlton, Mass. won the 20-lap Limited Late Model feature.

Albert Saunders of Stafford was second and Austin Bessette of Stafford third.

In the 15-lap DARE Stock feature it was David Comeau of Palmer, Mass. scoring victory. Frank L’Etoile Jr. of Wethersfield was second and Jeff Jolly of Wallingford third.
