STAFFORD – Over his first five starts of the season in an SK Modified at Stafford Motor Speedway it seemed like Rowan Pennink was pedaling worlds behind the leaders of the division.

Six races later it seems Pennink has left the rest of the division competing for second place finishes in another galaxy.

Pennink, the hottest driver of late at Stafford Speedway, kept his fiery ways alive Friday in rolling to his second consecutive victory in the 40-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series SK Modified feature.

“I couldn’t have asked for a better car tonight,” Pennink said. “The thing was amazing.”

It was the fourth victory in the last six events for Pennink, who has been seemingly unstoppable since winning the inaugural SK 5K on July 25. In his first five starts of the season before July 25, the Huntingdon Valley, Pa. driver did not record a top-10. He followed up the SK 5K victory with another win on Aug. 1. He was sixth on Aug. 8 and third on Aug. 15.

Ted Christopher of Plainville edged Doug Coby of Milford for second at the line.

Pennink went by Dan Avery for the lead on lap 28 and checked out from the field before a caution bunched the field up on lap 35. Another caution a lap later put Ryan Preece on Pennink’s outside. On the restart Preece went by Pennink for the lead, but on lap 38 Pennink powered back under Preece to regain the top spot in turn three. Another caution set up a green-white-checkered restart and Pennink was able to easily drive away and leave the field battling for second.

“Preece got by me there at the beginning when we were charging to the front and this thing was so good I was able to go right back by him,” Pennink said. “I almost blew it there, I missed a shift on that one restart, I let a couple back in front of me. But this thing was so good I just went right back by them and got the win.”
