WATERFORD – The pressure was on Randy Churchill Jr. to get to victory lane Saturday at the Waterford Speedbowl for more reason than just trying to chase a division championship.

Churchill, of Oakdlae, knew he owed to his wife Teri to get the job done.

Churchill recovered from a bad wreck in the last event at Waterford to win Saturday’s 25-lap SK Light Modified feauture at Waterford.

“I spent my [sixth] anniversary working on the racecar last night,” Churchill said. “I had that much stuff to do. Thankfully [my wife] understands.”

Corey Barry of Plainfield was second and Paul Buzel of Trumbull third.

Churchill, the reigning division champion, now sits second in the standings, 46 points behind Barry.

“I really need to win every week if I want a shot at the championship,” Churchill said. “I’ve got get eight points a week on him which is going to be really really tough.”

Mark Sammutt of London, Ontario won the 50-lap International SuperModified Feature. Rob Summers of Manchester was second and Jon McKennedy of Chelmsford, Mass. third.

John Zych Jr. won the 25-lap Northeastern Midget Feature. Randy Cabral was second and Seth Carlson third.

Dan Cugini won the 25-lap Northeastern Midget Association Lites feature. Logan Rayvals was second and PJ Stergois third.
