Bobby Santos III left New Hampshire Motor Speedway on July 12 with the winner’s trophy from the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Sunoco 100 at the track.
Friday he showed the speed that got him that trophy has not left him.
Santos, of Franklin, Mass., was fastest in the second and final practice Friday for the Whelen Modified Tour in preparation for Saturday’s F.W. Webb 100 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
Santos had a fast lap of 29.006 seconds (131.311 mph) around the 1.058-mile New Hampshire Motor Speedway oval.
Santos goes into the event sitting fourth in the series standings, 34 points behind leader Doug Coby of Milford.
Qualifying for the F.W. Webb 100 is today at 5:30 p.m.
Woody Pitkat of Stafford was second in the final practice session, with a fast lap of 29.067 seconds (131.035 mph) Donny Lia of Jericho, N.Y. was third fastest at 29.077 seconds (130.990 mph).
Coby was eighth in the session. Justin Bonsignore of Holtsville, N.Y., who trails Coby by four points in the standings with three events remaining, was ninth. Ted Christopher of Plainville, who is third in the standings, 33 points behind Coby, was fourth fastest during the final practice.
