Kasey Kahne, Dick Vitale To Break Down NASCAR Sprint Cup Challenger Round Wednesday In Boston

Chase GridThere’s March Madness. Now NASCAR is hoping to bring a little Magic Mile Madness to Boston Wednesday.

NASCAR Sprint Cup star Kasey Kahne will visit Boston with special guest Dick Vitale to promote NASCAR Madness to New England Wednesday.

Kahne is the 11th seeded driver in NASCAR’s new Sprint Cup Series knockout Chase for the Championship playoff format, which kicks off this weekend at Chicagoland Speedway. The second event of the Chase is the Sylvania 300 on Sept. 21 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

The event, which begins at noon at the Hard Rock Café on Clinton St. in Boston, also includes NASCAR TV analyst Allen Bestwick, “bracketology” expert Joe Lunardi and New Hampshire Motor Speedway executive vice president and general manager Jerry Gappens.

From the New Hampshire Motor Speedway press release:

The heart-stopping and unpredictable excitement of March Madness has come to NASCAR’s Chase for the Sprint Cup Championship. The brand new, knockout-style playoff system includes 16 eligible drivers in a four-segment, 10-race Chase. As part of NASCAR’s “Chase Across North America,” Kasey Kahne, one of those top-16 championship contending drivers, will be in Boston on Sept. 10. Kahne’s visit to Beantown will promote the playoff race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway the following weekend for the Sept. 21 SYLVANIA 300, the second race in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup and part of the opening Challenger Round.

To introduce “NASCAR Madness” to New England, we have drafted college basketball’s biggest cheerleader, the “Prime Time Player” himself, Dick Vitale, to lend his infectious energy to NASCAR’s new system.

Joining him will be 2014 Chase driver Kahne, who will lead fans and special guests through the Chase Grid and talk about the NASCAR Championship. Kahne has ten top-10 finishes in this season’s races, and clinched a spot in the Chase just a week ago when he won in Atlanta on Aug. 31. New Hampshire is one of Kahne’s best tracks, where he has eight top-10 finishes in 21 races, including one win. Kahne is also a huge college basketball fan who has been vocal about his excitement over the new NASCAR playoff grid. Special Guest Joe Lunardi, seen as the nation’s preeminent expert on college basketball “bracketology,” will talk about how the new Grid changes racing. He will offer insider tips and unique advice from the perspective of someone who knows the grid playoff system better than any analyst in the country.

Also in attendance will be Miss Sprint Cup, Madison Martin, who will be bringing the Official 2014 Sprint Cup Championship Trophy with her.
