Mike Scorzelli Gets First Late Model Win At Stafford; Adam Gray Grabs Late Model Title

SMS-LOGO-HOME-PAGE-2012STAFFORD – Michael Scorzelli said he heard the noise in his car amplified as the laps ticked closer to finish Friday at Stafford Motor Speedway.

But everything that was important stayed together and those scary noises were replaced soon enough with the sounds of celebration.

Scorzelli, of Malta, N.Y., led every lap on the way to his first career victory in the 30-lap Late Model feature Friday at Stafford Motor Speedway.

“The last five laps I thought the car was going to fall apart,” Scorzelli said. “I heard every nut and bolt coming out of that car. There were vibrations all over the car.”

Tom Fearn of East Longmeadow, Mass. was second and Adam Gray of Belchertown, Mass. third.

“I love it, I love it,” Scorzelli said. “When I knew Tom was behind I was like ‘Please, no mistakes, no mistakes.’ I’m glad I didn’t make any mistakes.”

Gray’s third place finish unofficially clinched his second consecutive Late Model division track championship at Stafford.

Glenn Bartkowksi held off Andrew Hayes over the closing laps to win the 20-lap Limited Late Model feature.

It was the first career victory for Bartkowski, of Manchester.

Hayes, of Charlton, Mass., was second and Cliff Saunders of Stafford third.

Division points leader Frank L’Etoile Jr. of Wethersfield took the lead from Andrew Marchese out of turn four on lap 13 and held on to win the 15-lap DARE Stock feature.

It was the second victory of the season for L’Etoile. Marchese, of Tolland, was second. Trace Beyer of Brewster, N.Y. was third.

Jordan LaMothe of Woodstock won for the first time in the 20-lap Legends feature. Dana DiMatteo of Farmington was second and Teddy Hodgdon of Danbury third.

Stephen Kopcik of Newtown held off D.J. Burnham on the final lap to get his first career victory in the 20-lap SK Light Modified feature.
