THOMPSON – Hours before the start of the Limited Sportsman feature at Thompson Speedway Thursday, track videographer Tom “Sid” DiMaggio – desiring some drama for his Sid’s Vault Productions crew to work with for the evening – pleaded with Corey Hutchings to not run away from the field later in the evening.

Hutchings said that would only make him drive away further. And Hutching he wasn’t joking around.

After a spirited battle to take the lead from Dwayne Dorr, Hutchings left the competition far behind in rolling easily to victory in the 20-lap Limited Sportsman feature at Thompson.

It was the fourth victory this season at Thompson for Hutchings, of Salem.

Hutchings was celebrating his winner’s bonus moments after climbing from his car.

“I want to thank Xtramart for sponsoring the [division],” Hutchings said. “I get a nice crisp $100 bill from them every time I win. That’s so nice.”

Dorr, of Ledyard, was second and Diego Monahan of Quaker Hill third on the track. But Dorr and Monahan were both disqualified after the event for illegal carburetors, moving Scott Sundeen of Douglas, Mass. to second and Todd Dean of Danielson to third.

After three attempts at a lap seven restart, Hutchings found the room under Dorr off of turn two on lap eight and then quickly sailed away. Hutchings easily left Dorr behind on multiple late restarts.

“Dwayne actually taught me something on the restarts when he was the leader,” Hutchings said. “He burned me really bad and I was like ‘I better get a little bit better on the restarts there.’ I changed up a little and the car was awesome.”

Rick Gentes of Woonsocket, R.I. fought off Jeff Smith on a lap 20 restart and went on to win the 25-lap Late Model feature.

Damon Tinio of Mendon, Mass. was second and Smith, of Old Lyme, third.

In the 15-lap Mini Stock feature it was Dave Trudeau of Mansfield topping the field.

Joe Baxter of Pascoag, R.I. was second and Ed Field of Deep River third.
