“The Natural” had the knack for finding the fast way around New Hampshire Motor Speedway Friday morning in Loudon.

Timmy Solomito of Islip, N.Y. turned the fastest lap in the first of two Friday practice sessions in preparation for Saturday’s NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour F.W. Webb 100 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

Solomito toured the 1.058-mile oval in 29.223 seconds (130.336 mph).

Ron Silk of Norwalk, the pole winner of the Whelen Modified Tour Sunoco 100 in July in Loudon, was second fastest at 29.306 seconds (129.967 mph).

Todd Szegedy of Ridgefield, the winner of last year’s F.W. Webb 100, was third fastest at 29.320 seconds (129.905 mph).

The Whelen Modified Tour will have one more practice session today and then qualifying at 5:30 p.m. to set the field for tomorrow’s event.

Series points leader Doug Coby of Milford was 12th in the practice (29.580, 128.673). Justin Bonsignore of Holtsville, N.Y., who is four points behind Coby in second place in the standings, was seventh in the first practice (29.408 seconds, 129.516 mph).
