It’s been said that New England is the true home of Modified racing.
And the champion’s trophy for the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour is coming to the home of Modified racing.
Andy Seuss of Hampstead, N.H. used a fifth place victory in the Whelen Southern Modified Tour Southern Slam 150 to capture his first series championship Thursday at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Burt Myers of Walnut Cove, N.C. won the event.
Seuss finished the season 14 points ahead second place George Brunnhoelzl III in the series standings.
Brunnhoelzl was passed for second place on the final lap by J.R. Bertuccio.
Seuss had finished in the top-five in the series standings each of the last six seasons, including runner-up finishes in 2009 and 2011.
The 27-year old Seuss finished the season with three victories 12 top-five finishes in 14 events this year. Myers finished third in the series standings, 23 points behind Suess.
