After a year for the ages behind the wheel of his Street Stock at the Waterford Speedbowl, Josh Galvin will go from the driver to beat to the new kid on the block in a new division in 2015 at the shoreline oval.

Galvin will move from the Street Stock division to the SK Light Modified division for the Mr. Rooter Racing team for 2015 at Waterford.

Driving for Mr. Rooter Racing owner Vin Beedle in 2014, Galvin had 11 victories in 24 starts on the way to his first Street Stock championship at Waterford. He had finished second in the Street Stock division in 2012 and 2013.

“I’m excited,” Beedle said. “I think Josh will do well. I’m sure we’re going to go through some growing pains because it’s totally different than full-fendered racing. But Josh is up to the challenge. He wants to move up and we’re going to give it a shot.”

Galvin, of Franklin, has spent the last eight years competing in a Street Stock.

“I’m so ready,” Galvin said. “We’ve been wanting move up for a long time. Right now is the perfect timing. We’re just really excited. … Doing the same thing for such a long time, not that it gets old, we love racing, but there’s that new factor. You’re just excited to do something new. We’ll possibly use it as a steppingstone. We just want to win races, be as fast as we can be and learn new things.”

Galvin said he will miss the Street Stock. He had 15 top-three finishes in 2014 with the car and finished worse than fifth just three times during the season.

“It’s like losing your first bike, you always remember it,” Galvin said. “It was a phenomenal year. It really doesn’t hit you when you’re in the moment and doing what you’re trying to do. We were just trying to win races and be fast. It was unbelievable.”
