Overflowing Day Three Of Sunoco World Series Weekend On Tap At Thompson Speedway

World Series 2014 logoTHOMPSON – A chilly day three of Sunoco World Series weekend at Thompson Speedway will see plenty of heat on the track.

Weather and other issues made for a long day for fans and competitors Saturday and in the end track officials were forced to move some of the Saturday schedule to Sunday because of curfew issues.

Saturday’s racing action came to a halt just after midnight, early Sunday morning, after two laps of green flag action for the New England Truck Series.

The Truck Series returns today. Also added today’s schedule at Thompson were the Late Model and Limited Sportsman division features that were lost on Saturday.

The showcase event on the schedule Sunday is the Whelen Modified Tour Sunoco World Series 150, which will decide the 2014 Whelen Modified Tour champion.

Doug Coby, the 2012 series champion, goes into the event with a 28-point lead over 2008 series champion Ted Christopher. Christopher is the only driver with a mathematical possibility of catching Coby.

Also on tap for Sunday is a 50-lap International SuperModified Association feature, a 25-lap Northeastern Midget Association feature, a 30-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series SK Modified feature and a 50-lap Granite State Pro Stock Series feature.

Feature events are scheduled to begin at about 1 p.m.

  2. Justafella,
Hearing the Late Model feature will kick things off today and then they will try to stay on the original schedule from Sunday and then have the Limited Sportsman and New England Truck Series events after the Whelen Modified Tour. Below is a link for the original schedule: http://www.thompsonspeedway.com/sites/default/files/upload//files/ws-schedule.pdf

  3. Shawn thanks for your dedication and
great coverage all season long. have a great day

  4. Any word on Schofield? Do you know if injuries are life-threatening or not?

  5. JR,
We have no official information to relay from the track or the series, though if you peruse Facebook you can find reports from folks that he will be alright. My understanding is that the extended time taken last night to remove him from the car was because of some issues with the placement of the car, how the car wrecked and other precautionary issues.
