Sixth Annual NHMS Speedway Star Set Contest Ready To Accept Entries

(Press Release from New Hampshire Motor Speedway)

Speedway Star LogoThink you have or know someone that has what it takes to belt out the national anthem in front of thousands of energetic NASCAR fans? Well, New Hampshire Motor Speedway is in search of New England’s top vocalists in what is sure to be the most competitive and exciting competition to date. Beginning on Monday, March 2 at 8 a.m., speedway officials will start accepting entries for the sixth annual Speedway Star singing contest.

Cara Peters was the 2014 Speedway Star champion, providing a scintillating rendition that left the judges and audience members in awe at the Mall of New Hampshire in Manchester, N.H. The 25-year-old native of Mont Vernon, N.H, stood out from a cast of talented contestants that included 2013 winner Whitney Doucet, who finished second and went on to sing the national anthem at last September’s NASCAR SYLVANIA 300 race weekend.

Peters sang the “Star Spangled Banner” at last July’s NASCAR XFINITY Series race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

“Singing at New Hampshire Motor Speedway was a wonderful experience. Having a full-time career as a rural property real estate appraiser does not allow for me to sing as often as I did throughout high school and college,” said Peters, who will be back to defend her crown. “The Speedway Star competition gave me the opportunity to share my passion of singing the national anthem with the largest audience I had ever sung in front of. It is an electrifying experience and an honor to sing such an amazing and important song.”

The Speedway Star competition will once again be held at the Mall of New Hampshire on Saturday, April 11. Prospective contestants are asked to submit a DVD, CD, .wav file or .mp3 file of them singing “The Star Spangled Banner” a cappella style (without music or other accompaniments) to the NHMS Events Department at [email protected].

Submissions will be accepted until Friday, March 27 at 4 p.m.

Contestants will be competing for two spots to sing in front of thousands of fans at a NASCAR sanctioned event in July and September.
