Thompson Speedway To Offer Inflated Purse For 75-lap SK Modified Event At Icebreaker

(Press Release from Thompson Speedway)

Thompson Speedway Long Narrow LogoThe Icebreaker on April 11-12 marks the opening of the 75th season at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park (TSMP). To commemorate the occasion, TSMP will be holding a 75 lap race for their premiere NASCAR Whelen All-American Series, the Sunoco Modifieds.

The 75-lap feature will be the highest paying Sunoco Modified race in recent history, offering $2,000 to the winner, and $250 to any driver who takes the green. Teams will be allowed up to two tire changes, throughout the race.

The race will draw a strong field of Modified drivers, including NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour drivers Justin Bonsignore and Ted Christopher. Bonsignore was the winner of the NASCAR Whelen Modifeid Tour races at both the Icebreaker and Budweiser 150 last year. Christopher is one of the winningest drivers at TSMP, with 98 career wins, and will also be a strong contender for the win.

“We’re looking forward to being part of the 75 lap feature event for the Icebreaker,” said Justin Bonsignore. “This will be my first season running the SK Modifieds full time, and I’m excited to be running in the division. I’m also looking forward to being part of the 75th celebration, and the purse definitely helps to sweeten the pot. Hopefully we can put together a good car to win the race!”

I wonder what the insecure bunch over at Stafford will do to get their SK teams to stay away?

  2. Why would Stafford even care?! They don’t open for another two weeks AFTER the Icebreaker. Stafford, without question, has the strongest SK fields in the region, if not the country.

This should be interesting because it is an unusually long race for Sunoco Modifieds. The 30-lap features are essentially sprints and are exciting, but an element of strategy will be required in a race of this distance. Fans will enjoy it!

  4. How is 2k to the winner the highest paying race of recent when they just had one just 2 seasons ago that paid 2500? which btw yielded a very poor turnout. 250 to start? nice that should cover umm well pretty much nothing, maybe the outrageous gate fees theses teams have to pay just to drive the truck threw the gate. While its nice to see the track showing a little bit of effort to brag about something that really is not that impressive just makes me laugh. yea 2k to win yet 45 more laps with tire changes. To me this is a very small pusre increase compared to a high amount of extra exspense. More money for a 30 lap race on a nite without the obscenely high gate fees would be better but it still may be a decent race between the 4 or 5 cars that show up that can actualy compete. I will save my money for Stafford and Waterford as over the past few years I have lost all interest in going to thompson
