Last year Todd Szegedy made his first foray into full-time Valenti Modified Racing Series action running for Lowell, Mass. team owner Kevin Stuart.

Their efforts together had Szegedy fighting for a series championship midway through the season, though issues between the team and series management forced the team to stop running regularly late in the year.

This year Szegedy and Stuart will team up once again, though this year they will chase big purses and big events rather than any sort of title.

Stuart confirmed exclusively to RaceDayCT Friday that Szegedy will run at least 10 events for his team this year.

Szegedy, of Ridgefield, will run all five events scheduled by the Tri-Track Open Modified Racing Series organizers this year. Those events include races at Lee USA Speedway in Lee, N.H., (May 17) Monadnock Speedway in Winchester, N.H. (June 13), Seekonk (Mass.) Speedway (July 1) and the New London Waterford Speedbowl (Sept. 13, Oct. 24).

Stuart said the team will also run the three Valenti Modified Racing Series events at Stafford Motor Speedway and the one event at Thompson Speedway.

Stuart said the team will likely add more events to that current set schedule. Szegedy had one victory last year, at Stafford Motor Speedway, in Valenti Modified Racing Series action for Stuart.

“We’re not going to chase any points,” Stuart said. “We’re probably going to end up doing 10 or 12 races. No points, just going to races to have a good time. We always had a pretty good car running up front with Todd driving, so hopefully we can win some races and just have a good summer.”

Said Szegedy: “It’s a shame how the season ended last year. But that was last year. Our main goal is, we enjoyed working together, we had a lot of fun, and we’re going to go run some races. The only pressure we’re going to have is what we put on ourselves to win. We’re not going out to win a championship, we’re going out to have fun. We’re going to have a good time and see where it takes us. We all love to race.”

Szegedy, the 2003 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion, ran six events on the Whelen Modified Tour in 2014, five of them for Rob Fuller’s burgeoning LFR Chassis backed team.

    WTF!!!
I think it is great that another team is running the Tri-Track series & some MRS races.
If you don’t like someone, that’s OK, but you don’t need to get nasty. Just go to the races & Boo him, that way there are more people at the races.

  5. 450mike, Todd will out drive 99% of these punk daddy rich silver spoon kids out there any day. He has and will continue to prove that over and over again.

  6. after the first 5 races it will be a full time ride when he has a few wins and the points lead…….great chemistry between driver owner and crew best of luck team 85

  7. fan of mods says

Dingus said it right, he will prove it over and over just needs a little bit of luck and a good car that does not fall apart because of driver error but team error 2 deals in one week says a lot about someone, looking forward to watching this wheelman in action one of the best drivers hands down
