Michael Bennett drove away from the competition on the track Sunday in winning the 30-lap Late Model feature at Sunday at the NAPA Spring Sizzler at Stafford Motor Speedway.
This week he left the competition far behind in his wake in another competition.
Bennett, of Stafford, ran away from the competition in voting this week to win the second New England Racing Fuel Support Performer of the Week Award of the 2015 season.
Bennett earned 166 of the 230 votes cast in voting, to earn a 72.2 percent share of the voting. D.J. Burnham of East Hartford, winner of the SK Light Modified feature Saturday at Stafford, was second in the voting, earning 45 votes (19.6 percent).
Each week during the 2014 racing season the New England Racing Fuel RaceDayCT Support Performer of the Week will be chosen from among drivers competing in events in one of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series weekly support divisions (excludes SK Modified divisions) at Stafford Motor Speedway, Thompson Speedway and the Waterford Speedbowl.
Bennett will receive a $20 certificate for race fuel from New England Racing Fuel.
Bennett said he will be donating his $20 certificate to the fifth place finisher in the 15-lap DARE Stock feature coming up this Friday at Stafford Motor Speedway.
“That’s where I started and I know they don’t race for much money and it could help them out,” Bennett said.
