STAFFORD – The Saunders and Saunders Show has been the centerpiece of the Limited Late Model division in 2015 at Stafford Motor Speedway.

Coming into Friday’s event at Stafford the brothers each had a victory over the first three events of the season.

Friday the twin brothers got the chance to duke it out for victory.

Cliff Saunders of Stafford held off his brother Albert to win the 20-lap Limited Late Model feature Friday at Stafford.

Albert Saunders of Stafford was second and Austin Bessette of Stafford third.

Cliff Saunders also won the Limited Late Model feature on May 1. Albert Saunders won the season opening event for the division on April 25.

“The car was going very good,” Cliff Saunders said. “I wasn’t very good in the heat race and [Barry Fluckiger] made a lot of good adjustments for me and the car was really good in the feature. I really didn’t expect to get two wins this early in the season. It’s really cool. Both cars are running really good.”

Cliff Saunders inherited the lead on lap 15 after Justin Bren was black flagged for spinning then leader Kelsey Rottino.

A lap 18 restart set up the battle of the brothers, with Albert Saunders lining up next to his brother in second on the front row for the dash to the checkered.

“I wasn’t really feeling good about that last restart with [my brother] behind me,” But we were able to hold on for the win. I know he was a little bit quicker so I was kind of holding him up. It was still a pretty good race.”

Said Albert Saunders: “The car was really good at the end, but I knew the best strategy for our team to finish 1-2 was to wait until the last lap. I felt like I was a little bit better than Cliff, especially off the corner. He was getting in really good, but my car was turning through the center. I was able to drive off really good. Great result.”
