On Friday at Stafford Motor Speedway the biggest drama of the night came in the 50-lap Late Model feature when Michael Bennett used a late pass to go by Adam Gray for the lead and then held off Gray coming to the checkered for victory.
And the theme of dramatic finishes continued this week for Bennett in the race for the New England Racing Fuel Support Performer of the Week Award.
In a tight battle that came down to the wire in the final hours of voting, Bennett edged Tony Membrino Jr. in voting for the weekly award.
Membrino was the winner of the SK Light Modified feature Friday at Stafford.
Bennett ended up garnering 328 of the 1,157 votes cast this week, for 28.3 percent of the votes. Membrino finished with 314 votes (27.1 percent) over the three days of voting for the award.
Austin Bessette, the Limited Late Model feature winner from Friday at Stafford, was third in the voting with 213 votes (18.4 percent).
It was the second time in the past three weeks that Bennett won the award.
Each week during the 2014 racing season the New England Racing Fuel RaceDayCT Support Performer of the Week will be chosen from among drivers competing in events in one of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series weekly support divisions (excludes SK Modified divisions) at Stafford Motor Speedway, Thompson Speedway and the Waterford Speedbowl.
Bennett will receive a $20 certificate for race fuel from New England Racing Fuel.
Bennett will donate his prize to the fifth place finisher in the Limited Late Model feature coming up this Friday at Stafford Motor Speedway.
