STAFFORD – Five weeks into the season at Stafford Motor Speedway and Michael Bennett was already celebrating a milestone moment Friday.

Bennett drove away from the field to win the 30-lap Late Model feature Friday at Stafford.

It was the third victory in five events this season for Bennett, of Stafford.

Before this year the most victories Bennett ever had in a season was two, accomplishing that feat in 2010 and last season.

“We knew we got a good racecar when we bought it,” Bennett said. “And we’ve been doing this a long time. We just needed to get some luck and start the season off strong. I don’t know if we could have started off any stronger.”

Josh Wood of Palmer, Mass. was second and Michael Scorzelli of Malta, N.Y. was third. Wood has won the other two events this season.

Duane Provost of Springfield, Mass. took the lead on lap four and never trailed again on the way to victory in the 20-lap Limited Late Model feature.

“It’s been a tough few weeks,” Provost said. “I finally found the setup I needed. Some help with the tires. I got new tires tonight and the thing was on rails. I can’t be thankful enough.

Andrew Hayes of Charlton, Mass. was second and Austin Bessette of Stafford third.

Reigning DARE Stock division champion Frank L’Etoile Jr. of Wethersfield picked up his first victory of the season in the 15-lap DARE Stock feature.

“I was just trying to stay out front and keep it consistent like I’ve always done,” L’Etoile said. “It paid off today.”

Dan Dembek of Hampden, Mass. was second and Tyler Trott of East Hartford third.
