WATERFORD – The last time the SK Light Modifieds ran at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl on Aug. 8, Josh Galvin celebrated his first career SK Light Modified division victory with little fanfare.

There was no celebration on the track for Galvin, who was awarded the victory after a disqualification of Paul French.

Saturday Galvin got his time to shine in front of the fans in victory lane.

Galvin, of Oakdale, held off Glenn Griswold of Vernon by inches at the checkered to win the 25-lap SK Light Modified feature Saturday at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl.

“We’ve had them taken away and we’ve taken them,” Galvin said. “The tech department is doing their job so that’s a good thing. But it’s nice to finally get out there and hold the flag.”

Corey Barry of Plainfield was third.

After a lap 23 restart, Griswold hung to the outside of Galvin, edging to the lead at the line off of turn four. On lap 24 Galvin moved back to the front. On the final lap Griswold got a run into turn three to draw even off of turn four for a drag race to the checkered.

“One of the things we’ve been working on here is the restarts and I’m getting a little bit better,” said Galvin, who is in first year in the division. “I’m not the best. Griswold is tough. He knows where to be out here. … Griswold has been at this quite a while. I wasn’t worried about him wrecking us or anything. We were a lot tighter than we were earlier in the day so that was my concern was my car.”

Said Griswold: “This is a swap meet transmission. I paid 200 bucks for it and it’s a piece of junk. It won’t shift. It’s hard to go into gear. … It got a little rough out there but it was fun hard racing.”
