The North East Street Stock Tour will travel to Speedway 51 for the fifth event of the tour’s schedule, on August 15. The following is a closer look at notes and numbers of the North East Street Stock Tour at Speedway 51.
SPEEDWAY 51 NOTES
Commonly known as “Grovetona”, or “Lil Darlington”, Speedway 51 was built in 1964. This ¼ mile, high-banked raceway has been a vital part of the town of Groveton, NH for 51 years, and often yields exciting, side-by-side racing. Mike and Sally Beattie sold the track to Curtis Robinson in the late 1980’s, and was purchased at a foreclosure auction by veteran racer Joey Laquerre, in October 2014. Laquerre has made extensive upgrades to the facility, and has added other attractions to the facility, including a pit for occasional “mud runs”. The track’s name is dedicated to Joey Laquerre’s grandson, Joey M. Laquerre, who passed away weeks before the purchase of the track. The younger Laquerre’s racing number was 51.
