In May, after two plus years of running regularly at the track for car owner Doug DiPisa, Ted Christopher finally broke through to victory lane in the Prestige Motorsports SK Modified at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl.

The victory marked an SK Modified winless streak at the shoreline oval that dated back to 2004 for the Plainville driver.

Since snapping that streak, Christopher has stayed heated at the Speedbowl.

That hot streak continued Saturday as Christopher won the 35-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series SK Modified feature at Waterford.

It was the fifth victory in 14 starts this year at Waterford for Christopher, and matched Keith Rocco for the division lead in wins this season.

Rob Janovic Jr. of Waterford was second and Diego Monahan of Quaker Hill third.

Keith Rocco of Wallingford ran away from the field in rolling to victory in the 50-lap Late Model feature.

It was the eighth victory in 10 Late Model division starts this year for Rocco.

Jason Palmer of Berlin was second and Jeff Smith of Old Lyme third.

Al Stone III of Durham won the 25-lap Limited Sportsman feature. Josh Galvin of Oakdale was second and Allen Coates of Ledyard third.

Ken Cassidy Jr. of Lisbon was victorious in the 25-lap Mini Stock feature. Wayne Burroughs Jr. of Oakdale was second and Marc Panaroni of Ivoryton third.

  1. Nice job Teddy and 13 team, sorry I wasn’t there to see it.

  2. TC was on rails tonight, he was not to be denied. Again the scoreboard was dark (like the parking lot).

  3. You didnt miss anything. You’ll be able to read about it when he gets tossed for bad gas again. You heard it here first.

  4. How the west was won says

Do tell dfg. Did sheriff st elsewhere get another one?

  5. Youhavenoidea says

Well dfg if you were a smart person like it seems u think u are then u would realize that at Waterford there is a longer list of fuels u can use instead of can’t and btw vp is one of them so all the people who claim he uses vp good try

  6. tech stand tommy says

Youhaveknowidea, you live up to your name again. An open motor can use almost any fuel, a “stafford” spec engine can only use Sunoco. Look for another Ted DQ at the Speedbowl. he could set a record this year.

  7. I Have An Idea says

YouHaveNoIdea you are not as well informed as you would hope. When using a Spec motor at either Waterfore or Stafford, there is only one fuel allowed: “20E- 15 FUEL SPECIFICATIONS – The only approved fuel is Sunoco Supreme” and this is spelled out clearly here: http://staffordmotorspeedway.com/wp-content/uploads/2015-SK-MOD-RULEBOOK.pdf DFG is correct that if TC was using VP, he’ll be kissing away the win last night.

  8. Scoreboard wasn’t working again? How hard can it be to fix it for good? Apparently it must be pretty difficult. I really don’t know what the issue is. Hopefully with all the improvements they’ve been talking about for next year, a new scoreboard will be part of them. I can usually figure out who’s in what place but not having a lap counter is annoying.

  9. Tech Stand Tommy,
According to tech officials at the Speedbowl, as of this afternoon, all results from Saturday are official.

  10. Jerry Servidio says

DFG and Tech Stand Tommy – I’m interested to hear where you get you information regarding that Ted is going to get DQ’d. Do you attend the races and then participate in the tear down afterwards or is this the default response whenever Ted wins?

  11. Youhavenoidea says

Fyi at Stafford they have a spec fuel rule for the engine there however at Waterford it isn’t defined as spec or open motor rule just a class fuel rule so therefore u can use what ever is on that list in that division unless stated which it is not so yea I think I do have a idea thanks

  12. Youhavenoidea says

You are talking about different rule books at different tracks so thanks tech tommy lol

  13. I Have An Idea says

YouHaveNoIdea – Waterford’s rules mirror Stafford’s plain an simple. The rules packages for the SK Modified division give you choice of what type of engine package. If you want to run a Spec Motor, you refer to the Spec Motor Specs and that’s all spelled out in BLUE here http://staffordmotorspeedway.com/wp-content/uploads/2015-SK-MOD-RULEBOOK.pdf and those competing with spec motors can’t play the “I can use any fuel in the on the division list” since the Spec Motor rules say what you CAN’T use is anything other than Sunoco Premium fuel. Why is that hard to understand? In Waterford SK rules here http://speedbowlct.com/wp-content/uploads/assets/2015-NLWS-SK_Modified_Rules.pdf page 11 gives clear link to Stafford rules which are above. Going to the Stafford rules for SK’s page 15 part in blue for Spec motors is what you are overlooking. Those who are on the 13SK team responsible for the motor package and his engine builder followed the rules for the spec motor build, but they opted to overlook the fuel rule clearly spelled out on page 15. Let’s see if 13SK has as much steam next week when they revert to Sunoco Premium like the rest of the field is using.

  14. Tech stand tommy says

Youhavenoidea, you better read the speedbowl rulebook again. It contains a link to the stafford speedway rule book. And refers to the stafford rule book for the spec engines.

  15. I dunno a bout a dq, but the speedbowl does follow the stafford rules for a spec engine.
    From the rule book:

    A. The traditional SK Engine, as described below in paragraphs 2.5.1 through 2.5.16, is legal for competition, along with the “SK Spec Engine” and the GM part # 88958604 Crate Engine as described in separate rule amendments found here:
    http://staffordmotorspeedway.com/wp-content/uploads/2015-SK-MOD-RULEBOOK.pdf

  16. Bring that car to Stafford!

  17. What tracks spec is promotional. By vendor and by series. There is no real difference or advantage. To using VP or Sunoco. As long as no other additives are added. Just beat the the guy in the track.

  18. Youhavenoidea says

Well seeing as in the Waterford rule book it states that the track fuel rule is as permitted where is Stafford only allows supreme and not vp at all Waterford allows it and the tech inspector even said yea it says u can run different fuel then Sunoco so I guess that u are correct over the tech guy lol

  19. Way to beat the system Ted. Congrats Tapley on folding for the king. The phone will be ringing off the hook at VP this week. Unless waterford decides to change the rule after the fact. Which I am sure they will. No wonder teds engine builder was still in the tech shack long after the car was loaded and gone. Looks like we are headed back to the old speedbowl. Goodbye car counts…..

  20. I Have An Idea says

TC FAN has it right and congrats to team 13 for outstanding gaming of the system. 13SK trialer was high tailing it out of there with the trophy in hand long before tech was done and top 5 were officially released from tech (of course, 13SK team will say there are no rules indicating they need to be there until tech officials are done with the division’s inspections just like it’s the Bowl’s fault this rules violation happened). 3 of the top 5 teams were there until the end. Winning move on the 13’s part to get the car off site so no additional info could be collected by the tech officials.

  21. What a bunch of children here…, Always good for a Monday morning laugh! You just can’t fix stupid

  22. Youhavenoidea says

U are so right on dingus and as for blaming Scott tapley u can’t because he is the race director not tech director

  23. Doug DiPisa says

This will be as much as I’ll comment on this thread. For the gas rule, don’t knock my team or for that matter the new London Waterford speedbowl or anyone else for finding a loop hole. Personally I don’t think the gas is going to be that big of a difference.
As for leaving the track : I was told by Mark to put my car on 4 jack stands in which I did. Mark then comes out from the bottom of my car asks were my drivers is and was told he’s somewhere I guess. He then proceeds to shake my hand say congratulations and good race, your all set. I proceeded to lower the car and drive off. I still trying to grasp why we were the only ones in tech being all the other guys pulled to their pit stalls and did tech there.
After car was loaded, my family and I sat there for over 45 minutes rating in the toter. After we finished,we left. So all the conspiracist can keep thinking what you want for your importance to social media. If you have to drive 2 hours to get home you’d do the same.

Thank you again to all the Prestige Motorsports fans. You can check out all our news at our Facebook page @ https://www.facebook.com/skmod13

  24. Youhavenoidea says

    Atta boy Doug get em

  25. Enough said.. Thanks Doug.

  26. well said Doug . nice win for teddy .keep on winning.

  27. Doug DiPisa says

Sorry for hacking up the English language, but that was written with voice text while driving. just figured I’d put that out there before the grammar police come and get me.

  28. Hey TC fan. Question for ya. When everyone was on here crying that Rocco was cheating the past few years and winning almost weekly, how were the car counts?

  29. Why would TC’s fuel become an issue after win #5 of the season? Wasn’t his fuel checked after wins #1 thru #4?

  30. Rafter nailed it. Why now? Because of his MRS issues? Todd Szegedy had the same issue. He got DQed by the MRS for an illegal carb. Then after his NHMS win all sorts of people were saying he was going to be DQed for that race for the same issue even though it was a different car and a different series just like this case. Obviously nothing came of it. Same here, nothing has come of it. People need to get out of their parents basement every once in a while and spend some time in the real world.

  31. I Have An Idea says

Rafter Fan and NH Mark – fuel has not been tested in SK’s this year as far as I know. It was just what the inspectors wanted to check this week for the top 5 (no matter who they were). Like Doug said above in his August 17, 2015 at 1:48 pm post, he found a loop hole and did a great job threading the needle. Every racer will squeeze every last drop of power they can get their hand on. How much a racer reaces into the grey areas is up to each of them. Last week is history and I hope TC puts on a great show tomorrow night!

  32. “How much a racer reaces into the grey areas is up to each of them. Last week is history and I hope TC puts on a great show tomorrow night!”

Exactly! Gaining every advantage you can, legally, is what skill and experience is all about. If it’s not illegal, it’s not cheating… This isn’t IROC, skilled car prep should mean something.

I’ve got to make sure my DVR has the Bristol race scheduled…

  33. GOOD FOR TEDDY, BUT WHERE IS THE COVERAGE FOR THE REST OF THE DIVISIONS…..NOTHING EVEN ABOUT CHRIS MEYER GETTING SUSPENDED FOR THE REST OF YEAR? I HAVE NEVER UNDERSTOOD THE MODIFIED BIAS.

  34. Doug DiPisa says

Guys. I know I said I would only comment once but I figured I’d let you into the business aspect of my race team.
As for VP to Sunoco, there isn’t much difference in performance. It just happens that I get a deal on VP and not Sunoco.
I feel that Sunoco has monopolized the racing around here with the help from other area tracks. And they see no need to offer any deals. So now it will cost me over $ 100 a week to go racing in which I feel is unfair because the bowl does not have a dog in this fight with kickbacks for fuel sales or engine parts.

  35. Doug DiPisa says

Oh and for the record, this gas has been checked and tested for the last 3 years with no issues. It is also used by the 88 because he’s on the same deal. He even goes as far as shoving it in their in running the VP sticker. His fuel was checked Saturday night, along with a the others in tech who unlike like the 13 has their tech done at their pit stalls and not tech area. We were the only ones in the tech area.

  36. Grey Matter says

Doug is right about the monopolization of race fuel which offers another series of questions. Why IS Sunoco the only fuel available at the track and why is it spec’d by other divisions at other tracks as being the only “legal” fuel? Are these tracks getting kickbacks from Sunoco or are the tracks unwilling to figure out what would be an equal in the VP line-up? I don’t ever recall reading rules from a NASCAR sanctioned track that stated that anything VP produced was the only legal fuel. Oh… but wait. The mothership calls it the “official fuel of NASCAR” so I guess we are all hosed in the long run.

  37. Doug, it is my guess that if you really checked into it you would find all the racetracks receive some type of incentives to mandate a specific product to be used by their competitors and fans whether it is tires, fuel, beer brand etc, etc. NASCRAP teaches the trackowners how to use their facility to its fullest to maximize their profitability.

  38. The only time you guys were anywhere near tech in the last three years was walking by it on the way to the bathroom! So save that nonsense about how its been tested the last three years. You never even sniffed a win until you got that new Troyer.

  39. Doug DiPisa says

Look I made a Rocco cronie dance. I love that power. Just would love to see you balls it up with a full name rather than do process of elimination with future responses.

  40. Doug don’t waste your time .

  41. Doug don’t waste your time .

  42. I’ve been around racing since the 1960’s. There is no way the VP fuel is the reason Teddy has won five races this year. You do not have to be a rocket scientist to see how team has progressed the last few of years. Sooner or later their hard work was going to pay off. Teddy may be in his silver years but he is far from being all done. The hundred thousand or so laps he has run at numerous facilities is paying off. Its time some of you posters give credit where it is due.

  44. I am aware of the engine fuel rules since 2013 and after reading all these posts and rule links I still cannot find the grey area, needle or loophole. Thanks for the fun.

  46. I Have An Idea says

Just noticed Waterford SK rules are updated and now spell out only fuel allowed for SK’s with Spec motors is Sunoco Premium http://speedbowlct.com/wp-content/uploads/assets/2015-NLWS-SK_Modified_Rules.pdf

  47. It’s hard to believe that Bowl officials did not know that TC (and Rocco?) were using VP fuel. The 13 and 88 represent ten features wins in 2015 thus far, yet the fuel issue was not identified until last week??

  48. I Have An Idea says

Correct Rafter Fan on TC fuel issue being found last week but it’s a stretch saying officials knew of it before last week. It’s not the official’s problem as they don’t check fuel every week. It would be funny to see computer search results on 13’s team computers for the following phrase “how can I turn purple into blue?”. Tech rotates among different components (carburetor, head, transmission, rear end, heads, fuel, tires, frame heights, shocks, etc.). Teams never know before a race is over what tech will be. Last week, other teams were told to go to their pit stalls by the officials and put the cars up on jack stands and fuel samples were taken. So looks like 13SK team will need to belly up to the Sunoco fuel bar after all given the new SK rules update.

  49. Thanks for the explanation. I always thought that motor, tires and fuel were the top 3 tech items. Regardless, the Bowl made the right call by acknowledging the “loophole” before closing it. I’m looking forward to rest of the season at the shoreline oval.

If you could get free Mobil gas to put in car or pay $12.00 gallon for Shell what would you do ??
