THOMPSON – After winning the Mini Stock feature on Aug. 26 at Thompson Speedway, Dave Trudeau lamented the long wait ahead to racing for his division’s title at this weekend’s Sunoco World Series at Thompson Speedway.

“Just the preparation you can drive yourself crazy,” Trudeau said. “I had to check every nut and bolt on the car 20 times. It paid off.”

Despite getting involved in a wreck on track, Trudeau ended up 10th in the 15-lap Mini Stock feature Saturday to clinch the track’s Mini Stock division championship.

“It’s awesome,” said Trudeau, who came into the event with a 30-point lead over Scott Michalski. “It’s been a long time coming. … Seven races, it’s so hard to be here. One mess up and you’re done.”

The race marred by numerous wild wrecks.

“They were a bunch of animals out there,” Trudeau said. “I don’t even know what happened when I got turned in turn four. I thought it was done. I ended up getting a right rear flat and just limped around. It is what it is.

“The car was fast. It was a shame. I know I had a better car than finishing in the back. Rough night. We focused on the championship and finishing and that’s it.”

Lou Bellisle of Lisbon won the event in his final race before retiring.

“I needed this one,” Bellisle said. “My last one.”

Bellisle held off a charging Marc Panaroni of Ivoryton at the checkered. Chris Viens was third.
