(Press Release from the North East Street Stock Tour)

Northeast Street Stock Tour LogoThe North East Street Stock Tour will travel to Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park for the final event in the championship series, the Sunoco World Series of Racing, presented by Xtramart. The race is the eighth and final event of the tour’s schedule, being held on October 16-17. The following is a closer look at notes and numbers of the North East Street Stock Tour at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park (TSMP).

THOMPSON SPEEDWAY MOTORSPORTS PARK NOTES
The oval track first opened on May 26, 1940, after a hurricane known as “The Long Island Express” ripped through the land owned by John Hoenig in 1938. Hoenig chose to clear his land and build a race track.

From 1952-1967, the newly formed SCCA would hold time trials and Gymkhanas, using the oval and an adjacent section of the property. In the late 1960’s, “Thompson Version 3” was created, using redesigned turns from the original 1952 road course layout, with updated viewing and paddock areas. Recently renovated, the road course now boasts a 1.7-mile layout, with an alternate 1.5-mile version.

Not only does the property hold the oval and road course, but also contains a 1/10th-mile Midget oval, 4.5-acre autocross area, the Raceway Restaurant, and an 18-hole golf course. The “Indianapolis of the East’s” 2015 season is the 75th year in existence.

Let’s hope that there are more than 10 – 14 cars that this series normally produces.
