Shane Hammond Midget To Pace Field For Sunoco World Series NEMA Event At Thompson

300 Shane Hammond Believe FoundationThe retired Shane Hammond No. 37 car on the Northeastern Midget Association will pace the field for NEMA’s Shane Hammond Memorial event on Oct. 17 at Thompson Speedway.

It marks the first time the Shane Hammond Memorial event will be held at Thompson Speedway.

Hammond was killed in a crash during a NEMA event at Thompson Speedway on April 6, 2008.

The Halifax, Mass. driver was 27 years old at the time of his death.

“This race is more than special,” Hammond’s mother Deb Marvuglio said in a release. “Shane was an awesome shoe, relaxed, with a gleaming smile and a good word for all. He had his share of mechanicals and DNF’s but it never wore him down. He loved racing, no matter if he was on or off the track, it was his life, it was the blood in his veins.”

Marvuglio operates the Shane Hammond Believe Foundation in memory of her son. The foundation assists racers in all divisions in helping with thinking safety first when preparing for racing.

The Shane Hammond Believe Foundation will be hosting a booth on the midway at Thompson Speedway for the duration of the Thompson World Series, Oct. 16-18.
