THOMPSON – Thompson Speedway officials lit the fuse early Friday on their biggest racing weekend of the season.

Sunoco World Series weekend kicked off Friday morning at the track with practice in preparation for qualifying for 15 feature divisions on track over three days at the facility.

Friday’s schedule includes the first of those 15 features, with Thompson’s weekly Late Model division set to run their 25-lap event tonight.

The American Canadian Tour hit the .625-mile oval for the first time in the division’s history with practice Friday in preparation for their 100-lap feature on Saturday evening.

Brian Hoar led the second practice for the division with Eddie MacDonald behind him in second and Brandon Atkins third.

Dillon Moltz of Waterford was fifth during the second practice. Thompson regulars Rick Gentes of Woonsocket, R.I. (eighth) and Jeff Rocco of Wallingford (ninth) were in the top-10 during the second practice.

As the American Canadian Tour cars were rolling off the track from practice the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour was arriving at the facility as part of a hauler parade to the track that began in Putnam.
