WATERFORD – With temperatures hovering in the high 50’s Monday, New London-Waterford Speedbowl general manager Shawn Monahan looked on as crews worked on continued upgrades at the shoreline oval.

“Everything is going well,” Monahan said. “There’s some great changes happening here.”

Crews were working on wall replacement in the turn areas at the track.

Research is ongoing within track management as to what direction to go in replacing the old ARMCO barriers that were torn down.

Monahan said track officials are looking at the possibility of new ARMCO, concrete or even possibly fully done corners in SAFER Barrier or partial SAFER BARRIER.

“Everything is out there right now,” Monahan said. “We’re just trying to figure out what the best thing to do is.”

  1. Me thinks the old ARMCO with tire stacks in front would’ve worked just fine. SAFER barrier would be nice but there’s 100+ tracks that need it more than Waterford. Armco works great. It gives on the hard impacts.

  2. Armco has my vote, it does flex ,concrete no ! no!

  3. I JUST HAPPENED TO BE WORKING IN THE AREA WITH MY DUMPTRUCK AND DECIDED TO STOP BY AND TAKE A PEAK AT THE GOINGS ON AT THE TRACK. THESE PICTURES DISPLAY JUST ABOUT WHAT I SAW. ,….WHEN ITS ALL BACK TOGETHER AND UP AND READY TO GO I THINK IT WILL REALLY MAKE FOR A “GREAT” YEAR OF RACING IN 2016.,………KEEP ON TRUCKIN’ SHAWN,.!

  4. Keep up the great work. We are very lucky to have such a great team running the Speedbowl.

  5. I love the improvements I think safer barriers would be the best you can not stop thinking about safety it is a moving target. Thank you for all that has been done and will be done.
