Not long after that conclusion of the 2015 season Todd Szegedy decided he needed a break from racing in 2016.

Szegedy made the decision to walk away from his full-time ride with car owner Bob Garbarino on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour and from his part-time Modified ride with team owner Kevin Stuart.

But it seems the Ridgefield driver can’t stay away.

Szegedy and the Lowell, Mass. based team owner Stuart will team up once again to compete in the Modified Touring Series’$15,000 to win Winchester 200 at Monadnock Speedway in Winchester, N.H. on May 21.

Stuart spoke with RaceDayCT exclusively Monday and confirmed his entry for the event with Szegedy behind the wheel.

“I called him today and I said ‘I want to race that race and you’re the first guy that I want to put in my car. Are you interested?’ He said ‘Yeah, I’ll do it.’” Stuart told RaceDayCT. “So here we go.”

Szegedy and Stuart have been working together for Valenti Modified Racing Series and Open Modified events since the 2014 season.

Szegedy’s history at Monadnock is one of regular success.

He won a Whelen Modified Tour event at the track in 2011 driving for Mike Smeriglio Racing. He has top four finishes in three of his last four Whelen Modified Tour starts at the track. He won his first Valenti Modified Racing Series feature at the track in 2012 driving for Smeriglio and had a Modified Racing Series victory at the bullring quarter-mile last year for Stuart.

Stuart’s primary focus this year is fielding a car for Woody Pitkat for the bulk of the Whelen Modified Tour schedule. He will also run some selected Modified Racing Series and Open shows. He said he had planned to compete in the Modified Racing Series event on May 20 at Stafford Motor Speedway but decided Monadnock was a better option.

“That’s kind silly to go to Stafford now for $2,000 to win when you can go for $15,000 to win,” Stuart said.
