LOUDON, N.H. – The champ set the pace to open the festivities of another NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour weekend at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
Last September Doug Coby won the second Whelen Modified Tour event of the season at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
Friday morning the Milford driver and reigning Whelen Modified Tour champion led the way in the first practice for the series at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
Coby toured the 1.058-mile oval with a fast lap of 129.542 mph during the 45-minute session.
The Whelen Modified Tour will run its third exhibition All-Star Shootout on Friday at New Hampshire Motor Speedway followed by the points paying New England 100 Saturday.
Justin Bonsignore of Holtsville, N.Y.was second during the opening practice at 129.533 mph.
Ryan Preece of Berlin and Todd Szegedy of Ridgefield matched speeds at third fastest at 129.454 mph.
Timmy Solomito of Islip, N.Y. was fifth fastest (129.305).
Woody Pitkat of Stafford, Donny Lia of Jericho, N.Y., Matt Swanson, Acton, Mass., Bobby Santos III of Franklin, Mass. and Brandon Bock of Franklin Square, N.Y. rounded out the top-10 respectively during the session.
Practice was cut slightly short when Ryan Newman blew a motor late in the session.
