ELKHART LAKE, Wisc. – Ryan Preece turned in the best run of his rookie season in the Xfinity Series in Saturday’s Road America 180 at the winding, 14-turn Road America course.

Preece finished a strong 11th, bettering his best previous seasonal finish by four spots.

“A really strong day for our team,” Preece said. “The car was great, and we kept moving up through the field. This is definitely something we can build on.”

Preece qualified 25th but had pushed his way into 11th place by the 10th lap.

Preece moved up to 17th in Xfinity Series driver points with the finish.

Michael McDowell won the race, and Elliott Sadler kept the point lead.

The series moves on to Darlington Raceway in South Carolina for a Sept. 3 race.
