Uncaught: Chase Dowling Rolls To Second SK Modified Win Of 2017 At Stafford Speedway

Chase Dowling

STAFFORD – Three races, two victories.

It’s fair to say Chase Dowling and his new SK Modified team at Stafford Speedway have found their groove together quickly.

Dowling, of Roxbury, held off Ted Christopher over the closing laps to win the 40-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series SK Modified feature Friday at Stafford Motor Speedway.

Christopher, of Plainville, was second and Keith Rocco of Wallingford third.

Dowling also won the season opening SK Modified feature at the NAPA Spring Sizzler at Stafford on April 30. He is in first season driving for team owner Adam Skowyra.

“It’s been fun,” said Dowling, who finished sixth in the SK Modified feature on May 12. “It seems like we show up and we’re laughing and having fun, but we get serious too when it comes race time. Everyone has their own jobs and they do it and nobody is stepping on anybody’s toes and they leave me to do my job on the racetrack. I try to give them the best 40 laps that I can.”

Dowling went by Dan Avery for the lead following a lap 13 restart and never gave up the top spot again.

“It was fun out there tonight,” Dowling said. “The outside groove kind of came in. I could see Keith [Rocco] and Rowan [Pennink] were a little tight. I said ‘If I can get to the outside I think I might have something.’ With Avery that’s how I got to the lead. I got to his outside and took it from him.”

Christopher, who won the SK Modified feature on May 12, passed Rocco for second on lap 32 and stalked Dowling over the closing laps.

“I would have liked to have seen another restart,” Christopher said. “But we’ll take second. We used the same tires as last week. I know they put tires on so. If we can come to second and be there we’ll be good for next time.”

Comments

  1. Sk race was the best of the night, MRS was not so much… $50 pit fee is just too much, won’t be going back for a while due to the cost.. my guess the reason for very few fans was the cost also.

  2. Stevo – Pit fee was $45 last night

  3. Shawn –
No articles on the Valenti or SK Light races? Did the racers/track/series not cooperate? Just curious.

  4. Not without a NASCAR licsense.

  5. Rafter Fan,
There’s an article encompassing them. There’s really never a night when every race gets it’s own story.

  6. Rafter, speed 51 doesn’t have a problem covering the Valenti series, no complimentary Caddy for you Shawn

  7. Elect,
You are aware that the outlet you mentioned hasn’t covered a single event at Stafford Speedway this year right ? No knock on them for that, but if you’re going to try to insult what I’m doing at least make some sense with what you’re saying.

  8. Believe me Shawn I’m not knocking what your doing, your the first place I check but Rafter was looking for coverage of the race and they had as I’m sure some others probably did too.sorry didn’t mean to insult anyone

  9. MRS race had a good battle for the lead due to all the cautions but the cautions killed the show. I left with most of the people around lap 70. I think 80 laps is a few too many, 50 on a half mile is plenty

  10. Shawn – Got it. I didn’t immediately realize that the Robinson story included recaps of the Valenti and SK Light races. Sorry.

Sure wish Dowling was still a Tour regular.
