Sweeps Week: Todd Owen Gets First Career Thompson Speedway SK Modified Victory

Todd Owen celebrates victory in the SK Modified feature Saturday at Thompson Speedway

THOMPSON – Last Saturday night Todd Owen celebrated his first career SK Modified victory at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl.

Saturday the Somers driver, and former SK Modified winner at Stafford Motor Speedway, made quick work of completing the state check list of short tracks he’s won in an SK Modified in.

Owen overtook Ted Christopher on a lap 28 restart and went on to victory in the 30-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series SK Modified feature Saturday at Thompson Speedway.

It was his first career SK Modified victory at Thompson.

“It just feels good because we built this car and got this done,” Owen said.

Christopher, of Plainville, was second and Troy Talman of Oxford, Mass. third.

“I don’t even know what to say,” Owen said. “I never expected to be here tonight. We had a really good car last week at Waterford. The same car. We brought it here and made some changes from last week and we unloaded it and it was super fast. … It was the 24 hours of Thompson. We sat around all day waiting, but it’s awesome to be here.”

Christopher was leading for the lap 28 restart but choose to restart in the outside lane. It was a choice that Owen was still trying to make sense after the race.

“I don’t know what he was thinking,” Owen said. “He was killing me on the bottom on the starts and he would have done it again. I guess I want to thank him. He raced me clean.

“He killed me on both starts because he would run me out of room. You know it’s coming, but it’s ok. Then he just gave it to me. He maybe thought he could keep me down and he probably didn’t think I could get the start I did. I’m usually terrible at passing here and I just sent it in there and let it go high and he just let me have it.”

TC is losing his mind. Restart on lap 28 of a 30 lap race, and he choses the outside?

With so few laps left after a restart, you never take the outside.

Whatever happened to 8 wheels are better than 4?

Ted’s brain was still restricted by Jack’s restrictor plate from last week.

Way to take the top on the last restart ted, even when you started on the bottom every start before. lol must of been advice from that silly car owner. Rocco, Preece, Pitkat, and Pennick were out of the race and Ted still couldnt close the deal. That car must be terrible.
