Islip 300 At Riverhead Raceway Postponed To June 16 Because Of Rain

(Press Release from Northeastern Midget Association)

While any rain out is disappointing at Riverhead Raceway some are more so than others and such was the case on Saturday when the Islip 300 fell victim to the wet stuff.

Fact is since the track was washed out the week prior on May 12th rain pretty much fell all week on Long Island and with a dire forecast in the offering for the Islip 300 track management made the decision to call the show at lunchtime Friday.

Track management has announced the Islip 300, a $7,000 to win Tour Type Modified extravaganza will now be presented Saturday June 16th.

A star studded field of Tour Type Modified drivers were all set to go toe to toe on the demanding quarter mile oval Saturday in a $32,650 spectacular but will now have to wait another month to do so. Prior to making the decision to rain out the Islip 300 Riverhead Raceway GM John Ellwood and race director Scott Tapley searched for a suitable make-up date.

With the NASCAR WMT, Race of Champions, Valenti Modified Racing Series and Tri-Track Series all having an open date on June 16th as of press time that date was selected.

Not only will the Islip 300 move to the June 16th make-up date but all the divisions that were racing in support of the big race will as well. The Eagle Auto Mall Modified Crates, Blunderbusts, INEX Legend Race Cars and LIVARS Vintage race cars will join in on the fun.

The originally scheduled Mullet Madness program has been canceled to allow for the Islip 300 program. The June 2nd Super Pro Truck feature that was to go a regular distance of 20-laps will now be a 30-lapper with time trial qualifying. The 4-Cylinder Demolition Derby that was planned for Mullet Madness night will be made up on a date to be announced.

Next up at Riverhead Raceway is the annual Memorial Day weekend doubleheader of racing Saturday evening May 26th and Sunday afternoon May 27th. Saturday the NASCAR Whelen All American Series is hopeful of seeing their first action since May 5th while the Spring Smackdown will open at 2018 Sunday Series at the track.
