THOMPSON – Last year – with the October’s chill in full effect – Todd Bertrand closed the Northeastern Midget Association season by scoring victory the Sunoco World Series of Speedway Racing at Thompson Speedway.

Wednesday, with the August heat scorching Thompson, Bertrand kept up his heated ways at the historic .625-mile oval.

Bertrand, of Danielson, won the 25-lap NEMA Midget feature Wednesday at Thompson Speedway.

Jim Chambers of Atkinson, N.H. was second and Cole Carter of Indianpolis, Ind. third.

Bertrand was able to dominate the event despite missing the second of two practice sessions for the division.

“The car was alright in the first practice so I kind of just guessed on the setup,” Bertrand said. “I knew that the track was going to be cooler and the sun was going to be lower. … We sort of just took our best guess. The car actually got really tight like halfway through the race. So I couldn’t as high of a line as I wanted to keep my momentum up. I was trying all different stuff.”

Ryan Morgan of Mystic won the 25-lap Late Model feature. Tom Carey III of Orange, Mass. was second and Woody Pitkat of Stafford third.

Wayne Burroughs Jr. of Oakdale won the 20-lap Mini Stock feature. Dave Trudeau of Mansfield was second and Evan Bourgeois of East Haddam third.

  1. I wonder how Ryan Morgan is able to keep winning races after all those burnouts after his three wins. One would figure those tires would be junk after that
