STAFFORD – Stafford Motor Speedway is the dragon Justin Bonsignore continues to look to slay.
In 34 career NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour starts at Stafford Bonsignore 10 top-fives and 21 top-10’s, but he’s still looking for his first victory at the historic half-mile oval.
That mission to find victory lane at Stafford began this weekend in perfect fashion for the reigning Whelen Modified Tour champion.
Bonsignore led the way in the first Whelen Modified Tour practice in preparation of Sunday’s NAPA Spring Sizzler 200 at Stafford.
Bonsignore toured the half-mile with a fast lap of 17.882 seconds (100.660 mph).
Bonsignore comes to Stafford riding the high of victory in the Icebreaker 150 at Thompson Speedway on April 7.
Five-time series champion and current points leader Doug Coby was second fastest in the practice at 17.893 seconds (100.598 mph).
Patrick Emerling was third fastest at 17.982 (100.100 mph). Dave Sapienza (18.051 seconds, 99.717 mph) and Tommy Catalano (18.081, 99.552 mph) rounded out the top-five respectively during the practice.
The series will have one more practice before qualifying later this afternoon.
