Large Turnout For Riverhead Raceway Tech Inspection Day

(Press Release from Riverhead Raceway)

Riverhead Raceway track officials were pleasantly surprised this past Saturday at the turnout of race teams for the track’s first Safety Tech Inspection day held in the newly re-paved pit area of the track.

GM John Ellwood and Technical Inspection Director Randy Murray tallied up 42 cars that passed through the technical inspection area on a bright sunny spring day. The 2019 race season is fast approaching as the NASCAR Whelen All American series will open Saturday evening May 5th with a seven division program to be followed by the Enduro season opener the next afternoon May 5th with five classes in action.

“When I came down the driveway in the morning there were already several race teams staged waiting to get into the pit area” John Ellwood beamed.

Indeed a pleasant scene as over the years cars would trickle in during the course of the inspection days but this year was different. Ellwood added, “I’ve been doing this for a decade now and by far the 42 cars that passed though here were the most for our first Safety tech Inspection day”.

Given the fact that several Riverhead Raceway drivers were either racing or working with other race teams at the annual Northeast opening Icebreaker at the Thompson Motorsports Park makes the turnout at Riverhead that much more impressive.

All 12 divisions that call the 69 year old Riverhead Raceway home were represented Saturday and race teams are reminded a second Safety Tech Inspection day is slated for this Saturday April 13th.

Pit gates will open at 10:00 am and there is a $20 per car inspection fee. There is no fee for team members. Teams are reminded no car will be permitted to take to the track for the two practice days April 20th & April 27th without first going through and passing Safety Tech and displaying a 2019 inspection sticker.

On track activity commences during the aforementioned two practice days April 20th & 27th featuring free grandstand admission for spectators. Pit windows will open at 9:00 am with Safety Tech Inspection opening shortly thereafter.

Practice will start at 12 noon for the seven Saturday night NASCAR/INEX divisions plus Street Stocks and Mini Stocks and run in rotation into the afternoon. Later in the day the three remaining Enduro divisions will have the track for their test & tune session. Pit admission will be $36 for those with NASCAR/INEX licenses, $56 for those without licenses.
