STAFFORD – The roster for tonight’s Twisted Tea Open Modified 80 at Stafford Motor Speedway got a huge addition this afternoon.

Some might even call it a monster size addition to the field for tonight’s second Open Modified event of the season at Stafford.

NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Series regular Ryan Preece made a last minute decision Friday. Preece told RaceDayCT exclusively this afternoon that he will join the entries for tonight’s Twisted Tea Open Mod 80 at Stafford.

Preece, a former Stafford Speedway SK Modified champion and longtime track regular, has an off weekend from his duties with the JTG Daugherty Monster Energy Cup Series team.

The Monster Energy Cup Series rookie had already planned to run the Islip 300 Tour Type Modified event Saturday at Riverhead (N.Y.) Raceway.

It marks the second time in less than two weeks that the Berlin native has taken the chance to race again in his home state. Preece was at Thompson Speedway on June 5 where he finished 14thin the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour event and won the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series SK Modified feature.

Preece has already announced that he will compete in the Whelen Modified Tour Eastern Propane & Oil 100 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on July 20, part of the Foxwoods Resort Casino 301 weekend in Loudon for the Monster Energy Cup Series.

Preece sits 25th in the Monster Energy Cup Series standings after 15 events this year. He had his first series podium finish (third) at Talladega Superspeedway on April 28. His other top-10 finish this year came in the Feb 17 Daytona 500 where he finished eighth.
