THOMPSON – On June 5 a failed rear end left reigning Thompson Speedway Limited Sportsman champion Shawn Monahan on the sidelines during his division’s feature and drop kicked back to ninth in the division standings with seven events remaining in 2019.

But the Waterford driver refused to give up the thought that a third consecutive Thompson Speedway Limited Sportsman division championship was out of reach.

“I came here today saying we fell back to ninth in points so my goal is to win seven more races,” Monahan said. “One down, six to go baby.”

Monahan won the 20-lap Limited Sportsman feature for his second victory in four events this year Saturday at Thompson Speedway.

“I want to run these guys with the utmost respect, but when I had that DNF last week, I’m coming here to win,” Monahan said. “There’s no way I’m going to get three championships in a row without winning every race. And I don’t plan on settling for second.”

Kyle Gero of Norwich was second and Mehgan Fuller of Auburn, Mass. third.

Charles Canfield of East Haven won the 15-lap Mini Stock feature. Russ Barboza of Norwich was second and Doug Curry of Groton third.

Thompson Rule book omission of no Station Wagons is a Joke, That Wagon is totally Illegal.
the down force that long roof has and the spoiler on top of the roof is just totally Illegal also.
The minimum rear overhang from center of rear end is 40 inches , deck lid area then spoiler
The wagon long roof is many times longer than 40 inches. The floor pan is supposed to be a
stock floor boards and stock angles. The Wagon is all tin behind driver all the way to rear, That
is also Illegal . Should have stock floorboards all the way to where tailgate would be in a wagon.
Rule changes are supposed to be printed in RED INK. They just dropped NO Station Wagons out
of rule book nothing in red . Yes he will win 6 in a row, If Track and Tech or Competitor’s don’t step
in and Fix this. The aero and down force advantages of that Wagon are Plain to see to the average
fan and should be a Red Flag to the Racers and Tech Men. The Competitor’s cant say anything on
Social Media or be fined as it says in rule book. If you would like to read the Rule book , Go on the
Thompson website on Nascar Racing Tab, then click on Competitor info and Limited Sportsman
Rules and you can read them yourself. What’s right is right and Wrong is wrong. What will be done
with this obvious rules violations . Measure the top spoiler height of any other car, then measure the
height of the spoiler on the wagon and what’s the height difference?? Wake up and fix this before all
the drivers just say enough is enough and refuse to even race with the 55.

  2. I love the wagon way more than I dislike crying, know nothing people crying about it!

  3. sour grapes of its won in the garage says

whats the issue ?? he hasn’t won them all.. don’t see the advantage here .. if the rules are not being followed in tech as alleged the other drivers should “have at it right” .. stop whining and make your car faster .

  4. You are free to like the wagon all you like but there were no tears to be seen at all from the racing fan. In fact there was a lot of specific points raised that might be worth addressing for someone so motivated. Not just whining about cheating like we see here so often but specific points. Seems like a totally legit beef although I don’t believe the success is so much the wagon configuration as it is the motor and associated components that for Monahan are probably top drawer.
Raising the center of gravity then trying to turn rapidly is never an advantage.
The floor pan does not have to be stock as far as I can see.
” d) A full, stock appearing floor pan must be used. ”
Oh brother. Stock appearing. What does that even mean? It can’t be a stamped, rounded floor pan that appears stock unless it is stock. Fabricated pans never look stock. Geeze Louise Thompson say full floor pan, get the metal thickness equal and be done with it. Or say “stock” floor pan is mandatory.
The rule against bullying on social media is good. If you have a beef take it to management. Allow trashing in the sewer of social media where hard facts and intelligent exchanges are the exception and not the rule and it would discourage people from doing their jobs properly. Or maybe thinking it’s not even worth it.
There was crying………by Slotcar. Crying about crying. saying yea family truckster and not addressing the points made at all.

So concerned fan must have taken measurements and did his own personal inspection and came crying about it here like it’s going to make a difference.
