Show To Feature NASCAR Modifieds And School Bus Figure Eight Race

For a race fan there is no better way to break up a work week or for that matter any week than with a midweek race. Such will be the case this Wednesday July 10th as Riverhead Raceway owners Eddie & Connie Partridge and Tom Gatz present a NASCAR Whelen All American race card featuring the NASCAR Modifieds and a School Bus Figure Eight race as well five other great feature events starting at 7:00 pm.

The headlining NASCAR Modifieds will go to post in a 50-lap contest featuring time trial qualifying. Last year John Fortin of Holtsville took down the midweek win surviving many restarts on his way to victory. This season heading towards the Wednesday special the odds on favorite to take the win no doubt has to be defending champion Kyle Soper of Manorville who to date has captured six out of nine races contested. The start studded weekly roster of Riverhead NASCAR Modified stars expected to give Soper and Fortin a run for their money includes, Tom Rogers Jr. of Riverhead, John Beatty Jr. of Merrick, Dylan Slepian of Dix Hills, Dave Brigati of Calverton, David Schneider of Huntington, John Baker of Brookhaven, CJ Lehmann of Shirley, Roger Turbush of Riverhead, Eric Zeh of Selden and Michael Rutkoski of Mattituck. Only Rogers, Beatty and Turbush have been able to break into victory lane once each in 2019 due to Soper’s dominance.

Adding to the wall to wall racing excitement July 10th will be a 30-lap Late Model event plus the Figure Eights (15), Super Pro Trucks (25), Mini Stocks (25) and a Truck Enduro. The Late Models, Super Pro Trucks and Mini Stocks will also qualify for the feature races through time trials.

After the stock car excitement has been wrapped up it will be time for the 13-ton School Buses to roll to the famed Figure Eight course for their third race of the campaign. Paul Fox of Riverhead and “Irish” Mike O’Keefe of Manorville won earlier this season and will have to contend with the likes of “Cheesebox” Michael Rommeney of Bohemia, “Stalker” Scott Phillips of Bay Shore, Chris Van Cott of Commack and Michael Rommeney of Maspeth who is also known as “Ralph Kramden” due to his employment with the New York City MTA as a bus driver in Brooklyn. The thrills and near misses the School Bus drivers provide is second to none.

The July 10th program is the first of three midweek specials at Riverhead Raceway with the other two set for Wednesday August 7th and August 28th.

General manager John Ellwood has released the race day schedule for Wednesday July 10th that finds the pit gates opening at 4:00 pm, practice running for one hour from 5-6 pm with qualifying starting at 6:30 pm. Opening ceremonies and the first feature event will start at approx 7:00 pm or at the conclusion of qualifying.

Admission for adults will be $30, kids 6-12 $10 with 5 & under free. Further details can be found at www.riverheadraceway.com, to send us an e-mail you can do so by addressing it to [email protected]. Our phone number remains 631-842-RACE.
