Doug Coby Leads Whelen Modified Tour Stafford 150 Practice At Stafford Speedway

STAFFORD – When the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour closed up shop for the NAPA Spring Sizzler 200 at Stafford Speedway on May 11 it was Doug Coby celebrating victory at the historic half-mile. 

Friday the series returned to the track and Coby came back continuing to show his speed off. 

The five-time series champion and current series points leader from Milford led the way in Whelen Modified Tour practice in preparation for Friday’s Stafford 150. 

Coby toured the half-mile oval with a fast lap of 18.593 seconds. 

Patrick Emerling, who won the Whelen All-Star Shootout exhibition for the series on July 19 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, was second in practice. The Orchard Park, N.Y. driver toured the track with a fast lap of 18.602 seconds. 

Chris Pasteryak of Lisbon was third fastest during the session at 18.606 seconds. 

Chase Dowling of Roxbury (18.624 seconds) and Bobby Santos III of Franklin, Mass. (18.631 seconds) rounded out the top-five respectively in practice. 

The back end of the top-10 included Jon McKennedy, reigning series champion Justin Bonsignore, Ron Silk, Craig Lutz and Matt Swanson respectively.
