Severe Weather Forecast Forces Cancellation At Riverhead Raceway Wednesday

(Press Release from Riverhead Raceway)

With a forecast for severe thunderstorms and dangerous weather being predicted for Wednesday across Long Island Riverhead Raceway owners Eddie & Connie Partridge and Tom Gatz made the early morning call to cancel the midweek special scheduled for the historic quarter mile oval.

The thought process among management was to make the early call so those who were going to leave work early could avoid taking the time off.

While there was disappointment about the cancellation Wednesday this was just the first show of 2019 lost to weather as opposed to the eight rain outs of 2018.  Track management announced Wednesday morning that the regularly scheduled 20-lap Street Stock race set for the Back To School Monster Truck Night of Destruction Wednesday night August 28th will now become the Laura Zegel Memorial 55. The much anticipated all female School Bus Figure Eight race shifts to next Saturday night August 17th. The others events lost Wednesday will not be made up.

Attention now turns to this Saturday night and the annual salute to our great country with I Love America Night.  Another spectacular Fireworks display is planned and will be joined by a show concluding 4/6-Cylinder Demolition Derby. The youngsters will be part of the festivities as well competing in a Kids Big Wheel Race racing from the fourth turn of the track to the start/finish line in Big Wheels provided by the track. The winners get to keep their rides! The mighty NASCAR Modified will run a 50-lap main event Saturday and be joined by the Late Models (25), Figure Eights (15), Super Pro Trucks (20), INEX Legend Race Cars (20) and Mini Stocks (25).

Qualifying will go green at 6:00 pm with opening ceremonies and feature event racing to follow at approximately 7:00 pm. Spectator gates open at 4:00 pm. Adults $30, kids 6-12 $10, 5 & under free. Additional information can be obtained by visiting www.riverheadraceway.com while e-mails reach the track at [email protected]. Our phone number remains 631-842-RACE.
