NASCAR Postpones Events At Atlanta Motor Speedway, Homestead-Miami Speedway

NASCAR officials announced Friday that this weekend’s national series events, including its top level NASCAR Cup Series, are now postponed. And events next weekend at Miami-Homestead Speedway are also postponed.

NASCAR had announced Thursday that its national series events at Atlanta Motor Speedway this weekend and Homestead Miami-Speedway next weekend would be run without fans.

NASCAR joins a long list of major sporting bodies cancelling events due to the Covid-19 Coronavirus pandemic. 

Friday NASCAR released a statement reading:

“NASCAR has decided to postpone the race events at Atlanta Motor Speedway this weekend and Homestead-Miami Speedway next weekend. We believe this decision is in the best interest of the safety and well-being of our fans, competitors, officials and everyone associated with our sport. We will continue to monitor this dynamic situation as we assess future race events.”

No makeup dates were announced on Friday.

The NASCAR Cup Series will Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 was scheduled for Sunday at Atlanta Motor Speedway.  The NASCAR XFinity Series and NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series were also scheduled to run events on Saturday at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

NASCAR was scheduled to run the Cup Series Dixie Vodka 400 on March 22 at Homestead Miami-Speedway. The Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series was to run March 20 at Homestead and the XFinity Series was to run March 21 at Homestead.

  1. Not surprising. Many people are needed to put a race on, still enough to be considered a crowd.

    Good move, thank you NASCAR for having the health and safety take priority over economics.

  2. No racing. Good move by NASCAR. It takes allot of people to have 1 race, nevermind 3. Safety first. Hopefully we get this virus under control soon.
