Tri-Track Open Mod Series Announces New Date For Seekonk Open Wheel Wednesday

Officials from the Tri-Track Open Modified Series and Seekonk Speedway announced Tuesday that their Open Wheel Wednesday event has been rescheduled to Aug. 26 due to the COVID-19 global pandemic.

The following statement was released by the track and series Tuesday morning:

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and continued unknowns about the start of the racing season in New England, Seekonk Speedway and Tri Track Open Modified Series officials announced on Tuesday that Open Wheel Wednesday has been rescheduled for Wednesday, August 26. The event was originally slated to take place on July 1.

The new date will see the same divisions in action, with the annual $10,000 to win Tri Track Open Modified Series event leading a packed night of mid-week racing. The NEMA Lites return for their own feature, and new in 2020, the SMAC 350 Supers hit the track at Seekonk for the first time as part of the annual event. Full details around the schedule for the day will be released at a later date, but racing will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Tri-Track Open Modified Series officials previously postponed their originally scheduled May 2 season opener at Monadnock Speedway in Winchester, N.H. to May 9 then postponed the event to a date to be announced.

The series also has postponed an originally scheduled May 24 event to a date to be announced.

  1. This is way later than JD said it would happen.

JD, did TTOMS and Seekonk consult with you?

Hopefully by then we will actually have real racing back in the Northeast! This event always has the biggest Modified turnout of the year.

Let’s Go Waterford ,Place will be packed! Cant wait. One of the best tracks, Always a Great time there Nice to seeing it coming back . { Bowl Strong!!! } BE First to Open be safe and good luck.

  6. NH tracks got the green flag for practice today. One step closer to regular racing in 2020.

  7. Anybody know how to get in touch with JD?

    Get a wellness check, he’s gotta be distraught. 😩 😫 😭

  8. NH tracks info: https://www.unionleader.com/news/health/coronavirus/race-tracks-revved-up-as-state-gives-green-light-for-practices/article_7a2b82c1-f9b2-5155-8191-ec5ce41fc764.html

Still no indication that they will “regular race” with fans in the stands in 2020. The track owner acknowledged that this is merely to let the boys play with their cars and get some revenue at the track.

Massive restrictions and only a handful of cars per session allowed, with very few people per car allowed.

Not a step at all towards “regular racing”.

  9. Some excerpts from the above linked report:

“The decision to allow practices brought a sense of relief to track owners such as Bobby Webber, who has been pushing to reopen Star Speedway in Epping for limited practice sessions without spectators.”

“(Racers) accept that they can’t race right now, but they just want to be able to play with their cars. This will appease them for a while,” he said.

“Epping Emergency Management Director Don DeAngelis said that, in the governor’s “Stay at Home 2.0” order updated Monday, race tracks were listed as an attraction that would open at a later phase, but state officials on Tuesday announced the change to allow practices.”

    Emphasis on “LATER PHASE”

    Tracks will open L-A-T-E-R.

And L-A-T-E-R means doing something or taking place, AFTER the usual, expected, or proper time.

  10. LATER this year. Exactly!! Can’t wait! I’ve been telling you that short track racing would return in NH LATER this year for months now. Nice to finally see you come around to see things my way.

Tour teams are encouraged to contact Mr. Webber for practice registration.

  11. JD, I’m not going to pull a demented Doug move and search your posts, but you have been promoting reopening like it is imminent, and imminent is sooner, not later, and it looks like you missed some of your targets already. Well, you missed all of your targets.

So do you want to define what “later” means? Or just leave it as vague as possible to reduce the likelihood that you look wrong again, or maintain your stellar 0.000 prediction average?

JD, short track racing requires fans in the stands. Short track racing requires the revenue from the people that buy tickets to get in the facility. Without fans in the stands, short track racing, NORMAL short track racing with fans in the stands, is not going to happen. Fans in the stands pay the bills. Racetracks will be some of the LAST venues to reopen… LAST. And that will be several months away. The public reopening is happening now with a safe and slow process, and it needs to stay very low key and slow to prevent large and potentially uncontrollable resurgence outbreaks. Large gatherings are STILL PROHIBITED. 😷 Therefore, it will take several months of operating at this low level of reopening {and large gatherings are prohibited} 🚫 to monitor the response of the coronavirus 🦠 to this limited reopening. That puts us into the fall months, which are already predicted to be deadly, a second wave of COVID-19 is expected in the fall. The plan is to use the next couple months (Jun-Jul-Aug) to suppress what pathogen is already out there as much as possible to hopefully reduce the magnitude of the wave expected in the fall.

Please be aware that there are millions of infected people out there, and the rate of decline of the numbers of cases and deaths is painfully slow meaning this will take months to get to a point when it will resemble what life was before this pandemic.

JD, I do hope that NH remains lucky and one of the few states with very little covid-19 impact. You must have an awesome garden!!!!

NYS came up with a contest to produce a COVID PSA, for your viewing pleasure: https://coronavirus.health.ny.gov/wear-mask

    Don’t be that guy.

  12. With schools and colleges already announcing in-person classes will not happen in the fall 2020, some schools are considering remote learning classes this summer, and undetermined after that, how can you people be so confident that there will be short track racing in 2020? Short track racing REQUIRES fans in the stands to pay the bills, and crowd gatherings, even classroom size, are prohibited now and indefinitely into the future.

  13. Ever see a cat with a ball of yarn? DaReal is my ball of yarn.

The guy who often stated racing was done for 2020 wants to change around the narrative. I know what I said. I’ll stick by it. Welcome to the 2020 short track season folks. Cars are officially on the track in NH.

JD, please tell us what racing with fans in the stands is happening in NH, or the northeast. Just list the “official” events scheduled for now through June. All of them, please. Tracks, dates, laps, series, etc.

What do you mean by “Cars are officially on the track in NH.” MRS, TTOMS, NWMT, ISMA, GSPSS? Any official sanctioning body involved? Or are you referring to the open track days for boys to go play cars?

JD, you failed to inform yourself. Hence I’ll repeat:

“(Racers) accept that they can’t race right now, but they just want to be able to play with their cars. This will appease them for a while,” he said.

Please note this: “(RACERS) ACCEPT THAT THEY CAN’T RACE RIGHT NOW, …”

  16. I was looking at the state of ct projected opening up of state in phase 2and 3 no place do i see anything about race tracks the biggest group of people i see is 100 and that is not until 4 to 6 weeks after a June 20 that does not sound good for any motor sports in ct.

  17. It’s funny watching the cats get terrified by a ball of yarn 🧶 , then all tangled up with the yarn, then they have to be rescued from the yarn.

Everybody must have seen the nature videos of a lion 🦁 messing with a mouse 🐭. JD is my little mouse.

Brian, you are correct and well informed. Given the phases, gate metrics and timing, the crowd size at a track is not even in consideration yet. We have to see how this limited opening goes before we can get to the next gate, which is still a long ways BEFORE large crowds like a track. Large venues, such as concert stages, music halls, etc. have pretty much all cancelled their seasons. I’m getting all the notices in emails.

Dareal has 8 of 16 posts so far in this thread. Narcissism much?

  19. Welding wonders, Doug, Rickyinmass or Waldo. What Dareal is posting is the cold hard truth. Covid 19 is not going to just disappear, as Trump wants you to believe. We are going to live with this virus for another year, or two dependant on if they can get a viable vaccine. Don’t forget, once they formulate it, they still have to go through numerous phases of testing. Specialized machinery has to be built. Then they make it, ship it out, then it’s distributed. Some of us might not be vaccinated till late in 2022, according to some reports.
Dareal is providing raw numbers, to show why we aren’t racing, and may not race this year. He makes some good points.
Personally, I don’t see short track racing in 2020, and if we do race it’s going to be a very short season, given a mid August start, and the possibility of a second stronger wave in the fall.
You know that life you had before Covid 19, you will never enjoy that life again. Sad part is, because of an incompetent president, we were 3 months late in our response, and to this day he’s still F—ing things up.
Now faced with defeat in November, Trump is withholding funding to states for mail in voting, knowing fear of Covid will keep voters away from the polls. Hopefully the states get this all figured out soon. Funny though, Trump fires the Postmaster general, and replaced him with a high paying political donor, hmmm wonder what that’s all about.
Honesty Doug,Welding wonders Rickyinmass, but your probably a Trumpians, so you never will. Dougie, still smelling burnt toast? You should do something about that, your not well. Get help dude, it’s only a phone call away. Go ahead, pick up the phone. Like I said, your not well.

  20. While the yappers yap about no racing, I would like to wish our friends at Ace Speedway good luck this weekend. Tour type mods in the main event. A bunch of BG regulars are heading over. Live crowd. The way life should be.

  21. Plugs 2020 says

I will not go outside until there is a vaccine or if the virus disappears. 2-3 years. I don’t care, I’m not working, socializing, nothing. I’ve been wearing a mask since one day before dafella started wearing a mask. I am that much smarter than all of you fools. And in a few years when I venture out somewhere I’m going to learn to drive a train. I don’t need to go to college to be an engineer.

  22. Ace is the place, and at some sort of reduced capacity per regulations. So JD, are you going to Ace for this Mod event?

Churches reopened and shut down again after outbreaks happened. Proved it is still too early for this.

  25. Truth hurt Doug? Or are you welding wonders, Rickyinmass or Waldo today? If you weren’t so busy copying what I post, you would have seen the news to support all of what was said
You can go back to your basement to cower in fear now. Still smelling burnt toast? Your not well Dougie. You really need to seek help for that.

  26. JD, per the Ace Speedway Facebook page, Ace has no events on the schedule. The Ace website has nothing to consider for safety concerning the pandemic. No mention of a Tour Type Mod event.

JD, let us know how it goes.

  27. The university system of New Hampshire announced on May 8th that they intend to open campus and residences in Sept. Then the Connecticut system announced the same this week. Florida schools as well. Most SEC, ACC are waiting to decide because they really want a football season. This notion that colleges will be closed is inaccurate as well. Imagine that.

Ace Speedway is running modifieds weekly now. It’s not a special show. Sounds like there is something going on regarding capacity but nothing official. Even if it gets pushed back a few weeks, no big deal. They will be racing soon enough. WOO is still running.

I can hear Ben Dodge loosening the vocals now. Racing in New England is getting closer. Cars are on track in NH today and all weekend preparing for the 2020 season.

Thank you all for waiting patiently for us to make an announcement.
The 2020 season opener is still on for Saturday May 23rd.
If you are sick, have been around or in contact with anyone who has tested positive COVID-19 we suggest that you stay home until you are well enough to attend.
We recommend everyone keep their social distance and use common sanitation practices in commonly used areas.
    Gates open at 5pm
    Races start at 7pm
    SeeYOUattheraces!”

  29. Thank you Doug. And with that, the short track racing season is underway. You know the one that DaReal and Bob the Plumber said wouldn’t happen. Yup. That one.
    Let’s go racing!

  30. Not that I don’t find your bravado entertaining JD and comments insightful at times but I provided it for information only. I support whatever a state and local officials decide working with tracks and am not cheer leading for either racing at any cost or the you’ll all get sick and die crowd.
Good luck with racing in New Hampshire. Legal racing that is and not that wildcat nonsense.

  31. NC, SC, GA, MO, OK, and FL have been racing for a couple of weeks now. A lot of the national dirt touring series have been running events down there. The National series events have been without fans so far but some of the invitationals non touring series events have been with limited crowds depending on the state. I am watching Lucas OIl Late models from GA right now. I think the National series are concerned about liability with respect to general admission attendance. If you go into the pits you sign a waiver which probably offers a little bit of protection to the track and series if someone contracts a highly contagious disease at one of these events

  32. CSG, one thing all those states have in common; the number of Covid 19 cases is rising in all of them.
