Stafford Motor Speedway got past COVID-19 shutdowns last week to become the first short track in Connecticut to open for the 2020 season.
And a week later Mother Nature decided to get involved.
With a forecast calling for storms through the night Stafford Speedway management made the decision Friday afternoon to call off tonight’s racing card.
The Midstate Site Development Street Stock 30 will be run next week.
All tickets purchased for tonight’s show will be honored on Friday June 10. All pay-per-view purchases made for tonight’s show will be good for the Friday June 10 broadcast.
In other news, Jimmy Johnson has tested COVID-19 positive.

Do a search on “Jimmie Johnson COVID” and you’ll get a few thousand results, hundreds of thousands of results. The NASCAR 7-Time Champion being the first NASCAR participant to go public about being infected is getting quite a bit of coverage. It’s a pretty big story judging by the major news outlets covering it. And Jimmie is meticulous about his at-track preparation and behavior. Not a good look for NASCAR at all. I’m sure it will be a topic of discussion during the race TV coverage tomorrow.
Luckily, Jimmie is in shape and works out. Hopefully he, and his family, do not have any other underlying conditions.

I like racing, Jimmie Johnson is a 7 time champ, up there with Petty and Earnhardt. Kind of a big deal across the country. And it has occupied the national news, so much so it’s national news and not just sports news. In there with all the MLB and NBA players that are infected, some opting out of playing at all in 2020.
