Entries Pouring In For Tri-Track Open Modified Series Debut At Stafford Speedway

(Press Release from Tri-Track Open Modified Series)

$10,000 TO WIN SPECTACULAR SET TO CLOSE SEASON OCTOBER 24

With just under one month until the drop of the green flag on the Tri Track Open Modified Series season-finale, entries are starting to pour in for the debut at Stafford Motor Speedway. The Call Before You Dig Modified Classic 81, scheduled for October 24, is going to be one of the major Modified events of the entire 2020 season – with $10,000 up for grabs to the winner and a purse rising over $49,500.

Fans won’t want to miss this one.

Tickets are currently on sale via the Stafford Motor Speedway website, with adult tickets priced at $35, tickets for those ages 6 to 14 priced at $10, and those five and under free. Pit passes are also for sale at $50 per pass. Race teams and fans are encouraged to purchase ahead due to capacity limits and COVID-19 regulations in the state of Connecticut.

Multiple-time Tri Track champion Matt Hirschman, driving the No. 60, leads the list of Tri Track regulars who will look to defend their ground against Stafford regulars and invaders. Hirschman is joined by veteran Les Hinckley, Woody Pitkat, Matt Swanson, Richard Savary and Dylan Izzo as some of the early favorites.

Joey Cipriano, who is no stranger to Stafford, is returning to competition with car owner Ted Anderson behind the wheel of the No. 1 Superior Refinishing Modified. Brian Robie, Austin Kochenash, Ryan Doucette and Chris Pasteryak are also slated to attend.

Two former Tri Track winners are also coming to close the big check: Craig Lutz and Ron Silk. Lutz, who won the opener of the 2020 season at Monadnock Speedway, will compete for Russell Goodale in his familiar No. 46 Modified. Lutz is also no stranger to Stafford’s half-mile – he picked up his first career NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour win at the track last year. Silk, who recently went to Victory Lane in a Whelen Modified Tour race at Stafford, is coming back to Tri Track with car owner Bob Horn. And, don’t look now – but veteran car owner Horn is looking to bring a second car, with a driver to be announced in the No. 50H.

Eric Goodale, who is a former winner at Stafford in Open Modified action, will also compete in the familiar No. 58, a car that is no stranger to success.

The Stafford flavor in general is quickly becoming one of the major parts of the race. Keith Rocco, a multiple-time SK Modified champion, current track points leader and former Open Modified winner, has entered in the No. 57 for Robert Woods. Rocco is a regular in Stafford Victory Lane but is a bit of a stranger to some Tri Track fans – only having competed previously on a partial basis.

Names like Matt Vassar, young Andrew Molleur, 2020 Open Modified 80 winner Marcello Rufrano and fellow Stafford regular Matt Galko are also registered so far.

The entry list will be posted to Stafford Motor Speedway’s website and will be updated as the days go by. Teams looking to register for the Call Before You Dig Modified Classic 81 can do it on the Tri Track Open Modified Series website.

  1. I’ll admit it I’m concerned. Looking as forward to this race as I was the first Stafford open years ago that was every bit as entertaining as I’d hoped it would be. With the better part of a month to go the anticipation is very high with over 20 entries and counting. In the background the infection rate and hospitalizations are ticking up in Ct and Mass. Other then to be safe there’s nothing to do but hope for the best and count cars.
The goal is to have a banner car count and for most it is 40 plus. Can we get there?

  2. Fast Eddie says

Does anyone know which #60 Hirschman will be in? The PeeDee with a spec, or his red ROC with a built engine?

  3. Ted Anderson says

Burt Myers will be coming driving the Ted Anderson owned Citrasafe superior Refinshing sponsored #11nc

  4. My guess Fast, it will be the red 60 with ROC built engine. Again just my guess.

Casella in but Williams and Swanson otherwise unavailable. Seeing who drives the always competitive 25 should be interesting. Perhaps a Stafford SK driver familiar with the track or one of the big boys like Solomito.
