Scoring Streak: Meghan Fuller Tops Street Stocks At Stafford; Tightens Championship Chase

STAFFORD – NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour greats Rick Fuller and Jeff Fuller had a flair for the dramatic during their heydays on the tracks of the Northeast.

And it seems to be a trait that has Rick Fuller passed on to his daughter Meghan.

Following a feisty battle for the lead, Meghan Fuller used a lap 14 pass of Frank L’Etoile to take over the top spot for good and win the 20-lap Street Stock feature Friday at Stafford.

It was the second consecutive win and third win of the season overall for Fuller, of Auburn, Mass.

“I didn’t know where to go but I had the inside lane and usually I prefer the inside,” Fuller said. “I saw [L’Etoile] making holes and I just kept filling them with him. I wanted to apologize for getting into him coming out of turn four once. But it was some good racing. The car was on rails tonight. We tried something new. Back to back wins, that’s amazing.”

And it was a victory that also spiced up the drama in the Street Stock standings.

Fuller’s victory coupled with a fourth place finish by reigning division champion Zach Robinson tightened the battle for the championship. Fuller cut Robinson’s lead from 10 points to four points with two events remaining. Robinson currently holds the tiebreaker by virtue of his four victories this season. Chris Meyer, who finished fifth Friday, sits 16 points off the lead.

L’Etoile, of Wethersfield, was second and Travis Hydar of Woodbury third.

“It was definitely a little bit tough,” Fuller said. “[L’Etoile] definitely had a fast car and he definitely knew which lanes to run to mess me up just in the slightest way. But I managed to get in head enough to be able to get around him.”

Comments

  1. way to go megan great job, congratulations on your win.

  2. Is she related to Bobby Fuller who once raced at Thompson?

  3. Make no mistake. Hydar, Robinson, L’Etoile and Myers are good drivers with great cars and some of the best competition the Streets have had as a group in a long time. And the chick beat-em.
I can’t let that race where Robinson turned Fuller go. Robinson even mocked the penalty of starting scratch for a couple races as no big deal in victory lane. And here Fuller is still behind him in the points battle.
The precedent was set when TC and Pennink mixed it up in victory lane and never had to sit out a race so Robinson was never going to be told to stay home for one event.
It’s still a bitter pill to swallow seeing Fuller playing catch up when she should be the leader..

  4. Doug your absolutely right no way that should be allowed to happen , Meg should turn him on first lap and she will still have time to come from the back , how can that be right but I guess it is. Good to see the bone head that turned I believe was Brandon Michael intentionally was booted , hope Michael is going to be ok

  5. Turn One Fan says

Doug, really wish that you would drop the “chick” thing. You sound like a Neanderthal! Megan is a RACE CAR DRIVER, a good one, and a real class act! By your constantly pointing out that she beat the guys you are actually mocking that she is a young woman and really doesn’t deserve to be there doing that to the more “superior” guys. Give it a rest! I was at the track when she came in second to Robinson a few weeks ago and watched from my turn one perch in the stands as the winners arrived in the inspection area. She got out her car and immediately went over to congratulate the third place driver and as soon as Robinson drove into the area, she went right over to congratulate him on the win. The following week, HE DUMPED HER! My best wishes to her, a really good race car driver, over these last two races!

  6. Great job Megan. 2 to go, just keep doing what your doing and have some fun along the way. No matter the outcome you’ve had a great season so far. Time to make a statement!

  7. Sure I can see that. In the absence of context the reference to “chick” could be viewed as demeaning.
Any “Gold Rush” fans out there? Tony Beets refers to his daughter as “chick”.. It’s an endearment and no one takes offense least of all his daughter?
I’m not new to this forum. Not liked by a some surely but I doubt any could find an entry that I demeaned a woman in racing based on gender Perhaps more of a bias in the opposite direction.
If I can refer to myself as a geezer often times I’d ask a little latitude in the use of what could be considered insensitive. It’s colorful with no malignant intention.
For me “chick” is an endearment that recognizes the special place women in racing hold. A traditional male dominated sport that woman bring special qualities to. Ms Fuller brings extraordinary qualities not only her success but a very unique driving style that in my view is smooth, consistent, cerebral, patient and very much reflects distinct feminine qualities. Her comportment in victory lane, interviews and outreach to the fans equally distinctly feminine.. If you associate feminine with weakness that’s your problem not mine.
Whoever made the rule woman can’t be tough unless they demonstrate toughness like a man was probably a man.. Ms Fuller appears to be tough as nails but does it in a way like no testosterone riddled male does like the one that spun her out of the lead in a race and in the points.
So yes, the chick beat the boys. A very capable bunch of experienced boys. When a woman does it it’s special and the overwhelming number of fans know it including this geezer.

  8. Doug you can try and make excuses as to why using the term “chick” to describe a female is ok because your old and it means something different to you but you are wrong. It’s 2020 Doug and lots of derogatory words are no longer acceptable. No excuses!!!

  9. Doug is an idiot.

DAREAL SAYS NO HE RESPECTS WOMEN

“And to address the gender issue. My wife and daughters are in professions have been male dominated and controlled. I am extremely sensitive to the application of the gender card”

SENSITIVE TO THE APPLICATION OF THE GENDER CARD ARE YOU. EXCEPT WHEN MARGINALIZING A WOMAN YOU HATE, THAT YOU HAVE DIRECTED WITHERING ATTACKS AGAINST FOR 5 YEARS, A WOMAN YOU DON’T EVEN KNOW. IN THAT CASE YOU’RE MORE THEN HAPPY TO FORGET YOUR RESPECT FOR WOMEN AND UNPACK A PETTY, PEJORATIVE SEXIST REFERENCE AND REPEAT IT DOZENS OF TIMES.

  11. Thanks for the feedback Slapnuts and I hear what you are saying. Let me give you my perspective on your advice.
First it’s not and excuse it’s a reason. I’m not tone deaf. Should women come into this forum and express concern over the use of “chick” that would definitely be a big deal and I’d honor their wishes dependent on how they framed their objections.
I have found as I age woman tend to refer to me as sweety or darling or honey. I’d like to think it’s because I’m such a stud and they are hitting on me but know it’s because they view me as a harmless old man. I find the references a bit demeaning but nonetheless take it for what it is……harmless if somewhat inappropriate familiarity. I view “chick” in the appropriate context the same. Benign inappropriateness and harmless.
Now for you. It’s a little hard taking an adult that decided to call himself Slapnuts in a public forum seriously when it comes to lecturing on what is appropriate. Especially with regard to how Slapnuts would be viewed by the fairer sex.
I can’t help but think your concern is not about women so much as about one young woman that wins. I don’t recall you chiming in any of the many times Melissa Fifield has been mocked and taunted in this forum. It’s the same issue yet you aren’t being consistent. Give it some thought.
Thank you again and I’ll take your suggestion under advisement…………Slapnuts.

  12. Please excuse Doug and all his other personalities. Somebody peed in their corn flakes and they are in dire need of much more fiber in their diet.

  13. I view Doug and all his other screen names as a malignancy and idiotic, insipid and pathological.

And calling Doug et al insipid, idiotic, pathological or whatever, is simply benign inappropriateness and harmless.

  14. Once again Doug that paragraph you wrote is called an excuse. I know getting up in age makes one think that they are correct on most things but on this one your just wrong. Nice job twisting my screen name into part of your sorry excuses for why you continue to defend using derogatory terms to describe a female driver end of story Doug. I’m sure you’ll write another book on why I’m an idiot with a few more excuses as to why you feel using a derogatory word to describe a driver is ok because your old. No Doug stupidity has zero to do with age.

EPISODE 45: INSULTS AND WHAT THEY SAY ABOUT THE PEOPLE THAT USE THEM

Darealgoodfella’s recent use of demeaning insults. A PARTIAL LIST!

Some stupididiotmorons just can’t help themselves
Everything happens for a reason, sometimes the reason is you’re stupid and make bad decisions.
    The Trump Administration is stupid
Are you dumb, nuts, or both?
    That is a profoundly stupid
I tolerate your opinions, no matter how absurd they may be.
Earl, you have to get out some, experience more of the world beyond your lawn.
What is wrong with you people?
Are you people dumb, nuts, or both????
PBR, the beer with a cigarette butt in the bottom of each can.
Anarchy, you just proved you are an idiot.
Anarchy, you are such an idiot, I have to explain everything to you.
You clearly have no ability to understand
Anarchy, you’re an idiot. Try another screen name.
Stupid is as stupid does, or in this case, posts.
Those that have a brain and those that do not have a brain
There are plenty of stupid people.
Earl, you are clearly an idiot.
How stupid are you? Clearly you can not and do not understand
Do you have any comprehension at all?
You proved conclusively and irrefutably that you are an idiot.
    Stupid is as stupid does.
Homer, yet another idiotic comment from you.
You are a racist and hate people that are not like you.
Anarchy, yet another idiotic comment from you.

WHAT PSYCHOLOGY TODAY SAYS ABOUT THOSE THAT USE INSULTS IN COMMENTS.
    Psychology Today November 2016.
    https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/the-human-beast/201611/the-psychology-insults
“For those who enjoy distributing insults, the internet is a perfect environment, one that can offer a shield of anonymity and an absence of consequences. The larger question is whether the frequency of ill-motivated personal attacks will ride the wave of increasing narcissism or succumb to social controls?”
“Effective communities maintain solidarity by keeping direct insults to a minimum. Hence the elaborate traditions of politeness and respect found in real-world communities of the past; people behaved that way to avoid unnecessary anger, disputes, and violence.”

“No Doug stupidity has zero to do with age.”

I may disagree with you Slapnuts but I certainly will never refer to you as an idiot or any other insult for that manner. I try never to do that and believe I’ve been successful in that regard.
You’ve implied my use of the word “chick” is stupid. Ignorant or sexist might be more appropriate. I like to think of it as congenially sexist.
I explained myself as best I can and am sorry you still take exception.
As an old Street Stocker I believe I understand better then most how difficult it is to pilot that class of car around the track that can be likened to trying to run on ice with sneakers especially in the corners and with one drive wheel. I also believe that while a number of you have been diverted to a larger discussion of what is appropriate in this forum I best described how good Ms Fuller is at what she does regardless of sex.
I personally think “Slapnuts” is vulgar but you are using it in a fun way that other then it’s literal meaning is not meant to offend anyone. Similarly I plan on dancing on the edge of appropriateness on occasion as long as it is used in the proper context with no intend of being demeaning or insulting.
