It sounds as if NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion Doug Coby could be capping off his 2020 racing season dabbling in a new ride at the Sunoco World Series at Thompson Speedway.
It was announced on the Lane Racing Facebook page Thursday that Coby, a six-time Whelen Modified Tour champion, is scheduled to drive a Howie Lane owned ride in the 50-lap ISMA SuperModified feature on Oct. 11 at Thompson Speedway.
Team owner Howie Lane was not immediately available Thursday. Coby said he had no comment concerning the team’s announcement.
Lane Racing also announced that Whelen Modified Tour regular Anthony Nocella would team with Coby in another Lane Racing ride for the SuperModified event at Thompson.
Coby will complete his first season as an owner/driver on the Whelen Modified Tour on Oct. 11 at Thompson with the running of the Sunoco World Series 150.
Coby goes into the season ending Whelen Modified Tour event second in the series standings, 27 points behind 2018 series champion Justin Bonsignore.
Coby has one win, six top-five’s, eight top-10’s and one pole in eight Whelen Modified Tour events this season. Bonsignore has three wins, eight top-five’s and two poles in 2020 Whelen Modified Tour action

No offense to coby, but I’m more interested in seeing how nocella does in a super. He’s got a ton of midget experience along with modifieds, and i think he has real shot at a good finish. Go get em woburn wing man!!
Coby does have some experience in a midget. I’d actually like to see Rocco in a super.
